-Ryker

I watched her mouth drop open and her eyes grow as wide as plates. She couldn't seem to form a sentence as she just sat there and gaped at me.

"I . . you . . we . . why?!" She stuttered around, unable to form a coherent sentence. If the situation was any lighter I would have laughed, but right now I felt that wasn't a good thing to do.

"Lexington, I can explain everything."

"Oh, please, please do!" She cried, throwing up her hands.

"I will, I will, but you have to promise me something first."

"What? No! Tell me what's going on!"

"Lex, you have to promise me first. You have to promise you won't walk away, you won't leave until I've explained everything." I insisted desperately, fisting my hand in my hair anxiously. My voice rose hysterically and I felt my eyes widen slightly with fear. I can't loose her! What if she hated me? What if the very thought of what I was made her sick? Even worse, what if she feared me? I couldn't live with myself knowing that I was the one to scare her.

"Ryker." Her lovely voice brought me back to reality and her previously angry face had softened. Gently she reached up and took my hand, softly pulling it from where I had been anxiously gripping my hair. Intertwining our fingers, she placed our joined hands in her lap as she rubbed circles into the back of my hand with her delicate thumb. "I'll stay, I'll stay." She soothed softly. Gosh, how can she be so perfect? She literally went from anger to comforting in two seconds! She is the one comforting me! How does that happen?

"Where do I even start?"

"The very beginning." I looked at her confused for a moment until I realized I'd spoken aloud. She gave me a hesitant smile, still obviously confused from seeing my matching streak of hair. This is it.

"Lexington," I sighed her name, not ready to loose her. "I don't know how to even tell you this without being blunt." I paused looking at her, she just squeezed my hand and nodded her head encouragingly. "I . . . I'm-"

"What is it?"

"I don't want to mess anything up by telling you this." I tried desperately to explain. "I don't want to lose this," I gripped her hand and lifted it slightly, "I don't want to loose us." I whispered truthfully.

"Ryker, I'm right here," she murmured, I could psychically hear her heart accelerate. "I'm not going to leave."

"I'm . . I'm not . . I'm not exactly human." I blurted before I could change my mind. Her face was blank with shock for a few seconds before it scrunched up in confusion.

"Then what are you?" Reasonable question, at least she wasn't laughing.

"I'm a different species of human I guess you could say. I'm called a Triadd."

"Tri-add?" She pronounced carefully, testing the word in her mouth.

"Yes, a Triadd. T-R-I-A-D-D." I spelled the word slowly for her, allowing it to sink in. I watched her repeat it silently to herself, her lips moving wordlessly. "Triadd's possess three extra characteristics than a typical human. That's where they get 'Tri,' from the three and 'add,' from the added qualities-" I was cut off by a loud and very unlady-like snort. The sound would have made me laugh had it not been for the gravity of the situation.

"What?" I asked, shocked by her reaction to my attempt at an explanation.

"I'm sorry, but Triadd? Really? That's so creative." She replied, sarcasm heavy in her voice. Same old Lex. A smile tugged at my lips.
