*Shadow*
I have been with the Thunderland family for three days now. The boy who found me, Drane, has continuously tried asking me out. I only refuse him. I do not want anything to do with him in that way, but I do feel grateful to his family for taking me in.
Since I have arrived, Lilac has felt more love. Sometimes at night, while I sleep on the floor beside the couch, I hear her cry out in her sleep. My heart breaks as she calls for her mother. But I know that there is nothing I can do to help her.
I sit with her now, the cold air blasting into my face, whipping my stormy hair around. She holds tightly to my hand as I read to her, her eyes wide with awe. I read a book called The Lorax. She is amazed by it. I have read it at least thirty times since arriving. She tells me that her mother used to read it to her.
"So Lilac, what else do you want to do today?" I ask her and she shrugs her slight shoulders. I sigh and lean back in my chair, enjoying the fresh, but very bitter, air surrounding us.
"Would you like to go for a walk?" she asks me suddenly, and I gaze into her ember like eyes. I nod my hand and she runs inside to fetch us coats to fight off the chill. When she returns, she hands me a coat I am only guessing belonged to her mother.
"Papa and Drane will be hunting for hours, they usually do. But I have written a note to let them know." she says as she slides her slight and fragile hand into my grip. I smile down upon her, and am rewarded with a breathtaking grin. Her mother must have been beyond beautiful.
She leads me into the forest and I try to think if I have been in these parts. The last time I was here was when Drane had found me, weeping beneath a willow. I am lost in my own thoughts, so much so that i do not notice that she has stopped. I stumble and land on the ground with a loud thump. I look up slightly confused as to why she has so suddenly stopped, than I notice the sad and far away look upon her young, tender face.
"What is wrong?" I ask her, reaching to grip her hand. She pulls away from me without blinking. She sinks to the ground and begins to weep. I wrap my arm around her protectively, and try my best to comfort her. "My mama loved this place. This was her weeping willow, and now it is mine. My sweet weeping willow." her voice is quiet, and she sounds shy. I have never seen this side of her, not since that night that we met.
I look around and notice that this is the willow i had been weeping beneath three days ago. I feel my eyes begin to water as I remember that night, the night i had been forced out of my home for the strength of my love for a mere mortal. I sigh as I relive that moment.
~flashback~
"Shadow, the father of all time has summoned you." a loud voice boomed over head, shaking me from my book. I glanced up to find a man I don't know standing before me. I stood up and smoothed the silk of my flowing skirt as I followed him.
Once we had arrived at his holy office, I had begun to feel nervous. I wasn't sure what he had wanted. Before I could knock, his strong, powerful voice called me in. I breathed in deeply and I slipped into his office, scared of what he will say to me. I kept my eyes focused on the ground.
"Please sit, Shadow. We must talk." he says and I did as I was told. I took a seat in the chair he had pointed too. I kept my eyes trained on my entwined fingurs. "Look at me." he commanded me, and i again did as I was told. My gaze slide up to look upon his face. He did not seem happy, and I had felt terrified by the look upon his face.
"What is wrong?" I ask him, and he stands to appear taller and scary. It had worked very well. "You are breaking my only rule, Shadow. Do you remember my one and only rule?" he asked me, and I swallowed the lump forming in my throat. "Do you not? Let me refresh your memory. My only rule was that you never love a mortal. You belong here in Heaven, you my dear, are a special Angel. But you have clearly fallen in love with a man on earth, and a very unholy man at that. I am very disappointed by this."
He shook his head and I felt my heart begin to break rapidly. There had been nothing i could have done. I couldn't have denied what he said, because he already knew the truth. I bowed by my in shame, and i heard his sad sigh. "You know what I must do, do you not?" I had nodded my head, my eyes begun to water. Tears had leaked from my tightly sealed eyes. "I must exile you from Heaven and banish you to earth."
"But Shadow, you will have a chance to return, but you must first save the life of someone who is desperate to end himself." I gasp, and stare into his eyes. He doesn't mean...he cannot possible mean...
"I am sending you down to earth, and you will not return, until you have saved the life of Theo Samuale Parker."
