*Shadow*
I hurry down the hall and out of his sight. Having his cat green eyes on me like that...well i certainly am flushed. I can feel the way he makes my body feel and I need to hide it from him. I need to act as though I do not find him attractive in any form. I have to pretend he does not already own my heart, because maybe if he decides he wants me, he'll try his damned best to get me, and that will give him a purpose.
In the bathroom, i fix my hair slightly. I wear no make-up, for my eyes are dark enough already. I smile at my reflection, trying to get the shy, sweet, yet clear that I'm a challenge smile right. I need him to know that I'm not going down without a fight. Once I believe that I have the smile down, I make my way back out into the living room to a shocking sight.
Theo is playing a game with Lilac. I feel my mouth drop to the floor and I slowly make my way over to them. I sit on the ground and pull me knees up to my chest. Resting my chin on them, I watch silently as the two of them enjoy their moment.
After about five minutes they both notice me sitting there. "Hey." says Theo and the smile on his face is real and wonderful. I cannot help the smile the curves my lips. "Hey. So when do we start? It's been a while since we got here and we still don't have our uniforms." I remind him and he nods his head. He stands and walks to a room down the hall. When he returns he has a pile of folded clothing. But only enough for one person.
"Here Shadow. I don't have anything for Lilac to wear yet." I look at the pile of clothing and shake my head. "I cannot wear those sir. I am only allowed to wear black." I tell him and he raises an eyebrow in question. I sigh and shrug. "I am just not allowed to wear colour. The uniform has to be black." he nods his head and looks at what I am wearing. "I have a shirt for you to wear, but those jeans will work. Can you work in them?"
I nod and he once again descends down the hall into what I am guessing is his bedroom. When he comes back, he has a baggy black t-shirt that he throws at me. I catch it and glance at him in surprise. "You didn't want me buying anything new so you have to wear that for working in."
I nod my head and make my way to the washroom to pull the shirt I currently wear over my head and tug the new one over. It smells like him, and I stop for a moment, trying to calm my racing heart. I need to keep my facade going until I am able to save him, hopefully with the strength of my love. Once I have regained my composer, I push open the door and make my way back to them.
"You must wear your hair up on the job, Ms. Field." Theo commands of me and I do as I am told. I tug my hair into a tight ponytail and walk confidently to his side. "What do you need me to do sir?" I ask, and when he smiles at me, I feel like I am losing control of myself. "I need you to start on dinner. Make whatever you want. I am sure it will be wonderful." he says as he leads me to the kitchen. We leave Lilac playing in the living room.
Once in the kitchen, he turns to me. I keep my expression blank, void of all the raging emotions within me. "Now Ms. Field, I am sure this will not be an issue for you haven't shown a single interest in me, but I must tell you none the less. I do not have romantic relationships with my maids." I laugh a little to harshly, and lean my hip against the counter. "Is that because you already have enough women throwing themselves at you?" my question and boldness catch him off guard and his eyes widen.
"You actually dare talk to me like that?"
"Sir, it is no secret that you like your women. The only secret you hold is how much you despise your life."
"How would you ever think that? My life is amazing, my dear. I have money, I have fame, I have art, and yes my dear, I have women always wanting to warm my bed. My life is better than any man could ask for."
I laugh once against and push off of the counter. I walk over to him and grab the hem of his sleeve firmly. I push the fabric up high, and revel all the tiny cuts and scars that he has caused over the past years. I stare into his beautiful eyes and move my mouth, forcing out words that I know will sting me.
"You can fool everyone on the outside Theo, but you will never be able to fool me. I know more about you than you will ever know about me. I do not want to be with you in a romantic matter. All i care about is getting Lilac out of that horrid place that she was forced to live since her mother died giving birth to another child who was scared by his father. I do not want to warm your bed, nor will i ever love you like all those other women do. Your heart is broken Theo, and none of those women you enjoy so much love the real you and they will never be able to heal the damage that witnessing your mother being killed, or killing your own father, did."
I push past him and begin to make the food. I glance at him from the corner of my eye to see that his mouth has fallen agape and he is staring wide eyed at me. I try to shake off the pain I feel and continue with my facade. I must be strong to save him. To save me...
