Maya

My eyes slightly open. My head was hurting. I had fallen asleep, for how long?

I open my eyes a bit more and see a figure sitting in my room. I blink a few times and realize it's Shawn. He was just staring at the ground.

"Hey.." I breathe out. He looks up, and gives me a small smile.

"Hey, are you any better?" He asks. "I got here with your mom and you had been crying. But you were asleep, so we didn't want to wake you."

"I-I.. don't know." I push myself up. "What happened after I left. Did he say anything?" He knew well who I was talking about.

"No, but he got interrogated though, that's for sure. I didn't say a word."

"Thank you Shawn." I sigh. I take a minute, and my hormones start flying again. "What happens when he tells everyone? What if he makes up lies and they believe him? I don't know what to think."

He looks at me in complete shock. He had never given any thought to it either.

"Maya.. I really.. I'm not sure. I mean with how scarred you are from this situation.. I doubt they'd doubt you.. I'm not sure."

I grabbed my phone and saw a bunch of missed calls. But I almost had a heart attack when I saw one from Josh 3 hours ago.

"One minute please." I tell Shawn. I call Josh back and wait for him to pick up.

"Um.. Maya.. Hey." I hear his voice over the phone.

"Yes?" I ask.

"So.. You're mad at me right?" He asks me.

"How can I not?" I reply.

"Well I figured so, but Maya I need to talk to you. It's urgent." He sounded desperate, and short of breath. I trusted him for some reason.

"Well..." I still was unsure to be alone with him. I couldn't risk something to go wrong.

"I hope you're okay with it because I'm at your house." I hear a knocking at the door, and through the phone. I jump up and throw my phone. I run through my door and get to the door before Shawn does. I stop and breathe heavily from the surprise exercise I gave myself.

"Shawn.. Don't freak out. It's okay." I say before opening the door to see a half frozen Josh. He has travelled outside in just his shirt and jeans. I pulled him in and started yelling. "Are you kidding me you can't ever wear a coat? Come on let's go." I push him into my room.

"Maya." Shawn says from behind. I turn to him. "What is happening?"

"He wants to talk. He says it's very important." I tell him. "I can promise you that I will be okay. And, if something were to happen, you would know." I tel him before running into my room with Josh.

"Maya please hear me out." He says, "I've been thinking about this whole thing, and the day it happened. I don't remember a thing from that day, but I know we started out drinking. We got a senior on the campus to buy drinks even though I know it is illegal for me to have them. I woke up the next morning in someone else's dorm. I went to one of my friends and he had told me that we played truth or dare the night before and that was one of the dares my other drunk friend gave me. He said he tried to stop me, but it wouldn't work." He stops speaking.

"Okay? That's what you told me in the bathroom but in more detail." I say back.

"After you left I sent a message to one of my other friends. I asked about that night. I asked, Did we play truth or dare? And he said no we did not. We have never played that game around him before." He hands me his phone, and his words were correct.

I didn't know what to say. This was leading to another dead end. There was no way that these facts could be lying.

"There's only one way to find out Maya.." he says. I knew what he wanted. He wanted a paternity test.

"Josh, we can't do it until after the baby's born. No way am I putting this child under any sort of danger." I place my hand over my stomach defensively.

"I understand. It's just going to have to be a long wait. In the mean time, I want more answers." He says. "You said that you were drugged? When?" He asks me.

"At homecoming. That was my homecoming night." I told him. He breathes heavily and takes out his phone.

"Do you know when it happened?" He asks me.

"1:27 in the morning." I say, recalling the time on my clock.

He calls someone, who knows who. It rings for a few seconds then someone picks up.

"Hey, I need a huge favor from you Andrew. Do you remember most of that night we were talking about? Okay, did I leave at any point in time at that night?" He asks. A couple seconds go by, and his face drops. "Well, what about Collin? Did he leave?" He listens intently. He bites his knuckle and I can tell he's angry. "I'll talk to you later."

"According to Andrew, I left at around one in the morning that night, but that was the only time. Collin, though, had left at about nine, and came back later." He threw his phone across my room. It shattered on the spot. He dropped onto his knees at the edge of my bed.

"I'm so sorry Maya.. None of this would've happened if it weren't for me." I lay my head on his, and we sit in our own sorrow pit.

I heard my door open, but no one ever said anything.
