Chapter Seven

The next day was a Saturday which was also Courtney's day off. She took Samantha to Wembley park in order to make her happy. They didn't really have fun yesterday all because of her ex.
She played with her daughter so much and they laughed real hard on the floor before getting up.

"I'm hungry"Sam said as they were walking out of the park.

"Let's go grab a Burger,okay?"Courtney said.

They walked to the burger shop and heard a very big explosion. Samantha held onto her mum's right hand so tight. They heard another explosion and Sam hugged her mum so tight.
Courtney kept looking round and found people running. She was distracted by her ringtone.

"Hello?"she said.

"Courtney?"Laine asked"oh!thank God you're safe. What about Sam? Is she alright?"

"Yeah,what's going on?"

"Whatever you do, don't go to Kings' style restaurant"

"Why?"

"Just come home"she hung up.

Courtney wondered what was happening at the restaurant because that's where she also works.
She decided to ignore Laine and she headed to her workplace. Her mouth dropped open as she saw it in shambles. She froze on the spot and was shocked to see the restaurant on fire. The fire fighters tried to put off the fire but it flared up the more. That restaurant was her only source of living. It was her only hope of survival and now it's gone.

"Momma"Sam shook her mum's hand.

Courtney looked at her beautiful daughter and back at the burning restaurant. She fell down on the floor and went unconscious.

"Momma"Sam knelt beside her and kept shaking her.

People just kept looking at Sam. No one bothered to help her. In the process, Darren was in his car driving home and he saw the burning restaurant. He parked his car and got out. He stared at the restaurant before the shout of a young girl got his attention.

He moved closer and was shocked to see Courtney unconscious on the floor. He rushed to the scene and carried her into his car. He pulled Samantha and dropped her at the backseat where Courtney's body laid.

He drove her to one of the best hospitals with the fastest treatment and watched as they took her into the ward and shut the door. He went to Samantha who was looking at him and squatted to her height.

"Your mum's gonna be alright"He said and she nodded. He looked at the ward and ruffled his hair as he stared at the door.

After some minutes,Darren was allowed into the ward with Samantha when the doctor confirmed her alive and said it was due to shock. He looked at her as she laid beautiful as always. He sat on a small seat beside her and regretted his uncaring attitude towards her. He looked at her shoulder bag and heard a beeping sound. He found her cellphone after opening the bag and saw Laine written on the caller ID.

"Hello?"He said as he picked it up.

"WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?!"she yelled and he moved the phone away before putting it back on his car."Court'!Courtney!"

"I'm sorry...this isn't Courtney"

"Hello?who's this?"she asked calmly.

"Courtney got unconscious"

"What!"she said and he heard the door slam over the phone.

"She's gonna be alright"

"Where is she?"she asked and he gave her the description.

She hung up after he finished talking to her and his cellphone also started ringing.

"Hello?"He said calmly.

"Where are you?"Karen asked.

"Karen look-"

"You promised you'll be home by dinner time"

"I'm not breaking that. I'll be home soon, I promise"He said.
He didn't notice Courtney's already conscious and she could hear everything.

"That's what you keep saying"

"I promise"

"Are you still mad at me 'cause of last night?"

"I'm not. Forget it"

"Be home early"she said and he hung up.

"Where am I?"he heard behind him.

"You're in the hospital"He said.

"Wait-what are you doing here?"

"You got unconscious so I-"He paused"thought I could help-"

"Someone better would've helped me,thank you very much"she snapped and tried to get up but winced at the pain she felt at the back of her head.

"I know you hate me but give me a chance to explain myself"

"There is-nothing for you to explain"

"I've been feeling guilty ever since and...I want the feeling to come off me"

"Yeah by being caring once again,right?...I'll advice you to step away and back off my life. Go meet your fiancé who's already made you dinner"

"Courtney-"

"I should've known you were heartless"

"If you could calculate this whole problem...it's obviously from you"

"Excuse me?"

"You left without telling me. You made me go everywhere in search of you. You never told me you were gonna move"

"Did you ever reply to my letters?"she asked and he was mute."No,answer that Neil"she said.

He looked shocked at her as she called him by his middle name. She does that only when he offends her.

The door swung open and revealed Laine. She was about to say a word but she kept her mouth shut.

"Hey Aunty Laine"Sam said with a smile on her face.

"Hey-"she slightly smiled"Court', I'll be outside"

"I was just leaving"she said and dragged her daughter along.
