Chapter Ten

The next day Courtney didn't rest a bit. She picked up her laptop and searched for job vacancies all over London.
She didn't stop searching until she found one. Laine and Samantha had already gone to the park so she was left all alone.

She found a job and applied for it. She didn't have the necessary qualifications but she was meant to be interviewed by the boss of the office.

She sighed in relief and happiness and decided to grab a soda from the fridge and Laine walked in laughing with Samantha.

"He looks like Grandma's crush"Sam said and made an irritating look"ew"she added and Laine laughed.

"Hey"Courtney said.

"Your daughter-"she laughed"is a funny kid"she added and sat down while laughing.

"She really is"Court' said while smiling at Sam who just ran off to watch T.V.

"Guess who got a job"Courtney said while grabbing some snacks from the fridge.

"The mailman?"she said with a raised eyebrow"give me a chocolate"

"Seriously?"Courtney said with a dry look and threw a chocolate to her.

"Did he?"she asked while pulling out her phone from her back pocket"I thought he was joking when he said he was gonna quit his job for a better one.

"I did. Dummy"

"Oh my gosh! That's great"she smiled"so when do you get to start?"

"Interview first then if they pick me-"

"Of course,you'll be picked"

"I hope so"

"Mum,there's a dude at the door"Samantha said as she entered the kitchen.

"A dude?"Courtney asked.

"Must be the mailman"Laine said while opening her chocolate.

"What's with you and the mailman?"

"He's got a goofy crush on her which is disgusting 'cause he's over 60 years old mum"Sam said and ran to her room 'cause Laine sent her a death glare.

Courtney laughed while walking to the door to check who it was.
She opened it and was shocked to see Darren standing with a locket in his hand.

"Hey. I guess it slipped out of your shoulder bag"he said while handing it to her.

She collected it and stared at the picture of her with Sam when they had a food fight last two years on her fifth birthday.

"Hey"he smiled at Sam who came to stand beside Courtney with a wide grin on her face.

"Bye"he said and turned to leave but Courtney's voice stopped him.

"Wait!"she said"I..."she started unsure of how to say she has forgiven him."I forgive you"

He made a wry smile and said"I understand. Just so you know,I'll be leaving for Texas next month"

"Oh"was all she could say as she watched him enter his car and drive off. She saw he was hurt and she also felt the same way.
She's already falling in love with him but she's scared of another mistake.

"Who was it?"Laine asked as she got out of the kitchen.

"Darren"she closed the door after answering.

"Darren?"

"Yeah"she sat down and looked at the locket"he's leaving soon"

"Leaving?"

"Yeah. His business here's almost over"

"Is he ever gonna come back?"

"I dunno"her voice cracked"I guess it's best to reconcile with him before he goes"she said and there was a short silence.

"Anyway, you just got a job. You're met to be happy"Laine shook her for encouragement.

"Yeah"she chuckled"not yet.'til I get accepted after the interview then we can celebrate"

"You'll get accepted. There's no doubt"

"Thanks"

"Anytime but you owe me dinner"

"No,I don't"

"Just go make dinner. I burn it every time"she said and Courtney stifled a laugh while walking to the kitchen.

"Yeah. Laugh it out"she rolled her eyes while grabbing the remote.
