Two Pasts And A Baby

Chapter One

"RINNNNNGGGGG!!!Said the alarm clock.

Courtney lazily switched it off from her bed table without opening her eyes.She struggled with the blanket before getting her butt off the bed. She walked tiredly to the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror before picking up her toothbrush to brush her teeth.She had a soothing shower after that.The water sent thrills to her body as she inhaled and exhaled.

She got out and started dressing up for work.Her best friend,Laine which she met three years ago shares an apartment with her.Laine has always been there for her anytime.

Courtney Elvis is a 25-year-old young mother with a 6-year-old daughter, Samantha. She got pregnant at the age of 18 and was sent out of the house by her dad.She moved from Texas to London which is more comfortable to her.

"Hey, ain't you gonna go to work?"Laine asked as she knocked on her door.

"Be out in five minutes"Courtney said.

"A letter came in for you"

"O-kayyy"Courtney said as she applied a red cover girl glossy lipstick.She wore her black flats with a bow in front and checked herself once more in the mirror before leaving her room for work.

She was a beautiful young lady envied by all.she had the curves,well-shaped butt and the normal size of breasts for Ladies.

"Morning momma"sam said to her mum as she was watching T.V.

"Morning honey"Courtney replied."had breakfast?"she asked.

"Aunty Laine made pancakes"she said.

Courtney went to the kitchen and met Laine making a sandwich and singing to the song playing on the radio.Laine turned off the radio and sat down.There wasn't a dining room so they always eat in the kitchen or sitting room. Courtney was the owner of the house.It belonged to her mum who stayed there anytime she comes for winter but after her husband sent Courtney out,she gave the house to Courtney.

"A letter came in for you"Laine said while handing the letter to Courtney. She collected it and struggled with the staplers.

"You know you've gotta learn how to be a real mum"Laine said with a piece of sandwich stuffed in her mouth.

"Tell me about it"Courtney murmured while checking who the letter's from.

"Samantha needs the parental care. I can't keep this up forever"

"The letter's from...Nobody?"she snubbed Laine and said with a confused look.

"It's all blank"she added.

"Must be the mailman again"

"Yeah,I've gotta get to work"

"When you get back,we'll start the preparation"Laine said and Sam' entered.She took her box of cereals and started making her second breakfast.

"What preparation?"Courtney asked with a piece of the sandwich in her mouth.

"For Sam'"Laine said and Courtney still wore the confused look while staring at Samantha.

"Her birthday"Laine whispered and looked at Samantha. She didn't want the innocent 6-year-old to know her mother's forgotten her birthday coming up in three days time.

"Her birthday?"Courtney said out loud and Laine closed her eyes."When is it?"

"You don't remember?"Sam looked at her mum.

It wasn't Courtney's fault. She never counted the day of her daughter special because she hated her first when she bore her but she began to like her after a while.

"Er..."Courtney said"Of course,I do,hon'"she faked a smile.

"Your mother's been so busy dearie.You can't blame her if she's forgotten your birthday"Laine said and Courtney looked at her with an annoyed look."that came out wrong"she said and left the kitchen for them to have some mother and daughter time together.

"What Laine meant was-I pretended okay?...I can't forget your birthday. You mean so much to me"she said and cupped her daughter's cheeks.

"You're sure momma?"

"I'm sure baby. I even got a surprise for you"She lied.

"Yay!"she hugged her"I love surprises"she added and Courtney stifled a laugh."I'll go tell Aunty Laine about it!"she ran out happily.

Courtney stood up after watching her lovely daughter go. She cleaned an unconscious drop of water which rolled down her right cheek.

She got to work after thirty minutes and tried sneaking in but she was caught by her boss.

"Late again Miss Elvis"She heard her boss,Barbara behind her.

"Errr"She turned."Morning"she smiled.

"Any excuse?"

"Well,I won't say I have one though. My alarm stopped working"she lied."It was 'post to wake me up by 7:00am but it was 7:26am.I had to clean the house,take Sam to her babysitter-"

"I won't tolerate this next time"

"I swear,it'll never happen again"she said.

""Go change.We have a lot of tables to serve"Barbara said and walked away.

That was a close one for Courtney. She changed into her uniform and greeted her colleague, Lynn.

"Hey Court'"Lynn said as she hugged her."Lemme guess-"

"Late again"Courtney confessed.

"You really need to change your alarm"

"Yeah.I think I love it that way"

"Anyway,could you take Table 7's order?I already got three orders"

"No problem"Courtney said and walked to Table 7.
