"Stephanie, wait up!"
Stephanie heard the familiar voice of her friend, yet instead of stopping and turning around, she picked up her pace, clutching tightly to her dance bag.
The brunette was almost at the door when a hand suddenly grabbed her arm, and she jumped in shock.
"Are you avoiding me?" West asked, staring at the girl with a questioning look on his face.
Stephanie just looked at the floor, not wanting to answer.
Not wanting to admit the truth.
It all started at Nationals.
They were there with the team, and the news of winning was fresh on everyone's minds.
But Stephanie was not feeling as happy as everyone else.
She saw West and Emily kiss.
Her best friend and her crush, together?! Definitely the brunette's worst nightmare.
She didn't even know they had a thing - but even now, the brown-haired girl could get West out of her head.
Stephanie couldn't do anything about it either, because after all, Emily was her best friend and she'd never do that to her.
But the feelings were there and they just wouldn't go away.
So Stephanie did the next best thing - avoiding West until her infatuation crashes and burns.
But even the prospect of that seemed ridiculous to Stephanie - it didn't seem like her feelings for the boy would go away any time soon, let alone forever.
"Are you?" West asked again, snapping the brunette out of her reverie.
"Uhhhh.... No? Why would you think that?" Stephanie asked in a ridiculing tone, even though she felt the complete opposite.
"Just now, you tried to walk away from me, and that's just one time," West reasoned, raising his eyebrows, watching as Stephanie's cheeks turned a shade of red.
"Maybe I need to be somewhere?" The brunette retorted, but even she knew it sounded pathetic.
I mean, really?
"Oh yeah, and where is that?" West asked, crossing his arms, a smug smile appearing on his features.
'Crying my eyes out because you don't like me back," Stephanie thought to herself, careful to keep it in her mind.
She had a habit of speaking on impulse, but this was a time when she needed to be really careful about what she said and did.
For the sake of friendship."Home, now if you'll excuse me," Stephanie replied sassily after a moment of thought, reaching past West to open the door.
"Nu-uh, not until you tell me the truth," The brown-haired boy said calmly to the brunette, blocking her way even further.
"There is no truth, I have priorities in my life and you are not one of them," Steph replied with even more sass.
It was like the sass ship had docked and all the snarky remarks were just pouring out of the boat, uncontrolled and slightly mean.
