On with the story....

~7 years later~

The first morning bell shrilled and echoed around the entire school, prompting huge slams of lockers and loud, animated chatter.

Just another day.

But another day closer to leaving.

Richelle sighed, reaching for her maths book. She could take her time; her first class was maths and her teacher loved her.

Quickly checking she had everything she needed, Richelle was about to slam her locker closed, when she heard an obnoxious, boisterous conversation get louder and louder, drowning out all the other sounds in the hallway.

"Ugh... They are so annoying!" Richelle thought to herself, as stared at the group of rowdy teenagers. How could anyone be so disruptive? Always the popular crows.

The blonde-haired girl watched as the group of friends walked down the hall, looking at one in particular.

Noah.

Her used-to-be best friend.

Her so-called other half.

He walked by without a care, not ever noticing her.

It used to be Richelle and Noah against the world.

Now?

Well they reached high school and Noah decided that Richelle wasn't popular enough for him, so he left her as fast as the road runner.

She wasn't unpopular, but more of a lone wolf.

Her intelligence and incredible sporting capabilities intimidated everyone, so she only had her best friend named Izzy.

Richelle was not only captain of the Mathletes and the Robotics team, who both had state titles, she was the captain of track and the dance team. The blonde-haired girl had been the three-time state champion for 100m sprint, 500m hurdles, high jump, long jump, discus and hurdles, as well as two-time national champion. The dance team was currently preparing for internationals, and they were starting auditions soon.

Long list of credentials, right?

But Izzy looked past all that and saw her for who she truly was, an adventurous, young girl, who on the inside, was lonely.

She was a better friend than Noah ever was.

She remembered all their times, racing to the treehouse, and goofing around at barbeques.

All the times Noah said he would never leave her, and they would escape together.

But those promises were empty.

She had liked Noah and he stomped on every last piece of their friendship, until it was irreparable. There was, however, a small part of Richelle that refused to admit that she still had hope for the two of them – she tried to drown the feeling but it still stayed, buried inside her heart.

It felt like everything they had was nothing.

In a second.

But Richelle was strong, so she carried on all these years, harbouring every pent-up emotion, until Izzy came. She knew everything.

Richelle stared at the back of Noah's head as he passed, without even a glance in her direction. She wondered how someone could change like that, how someone could be so two-faced.

The blonde-haired girl quickly slammed her locker shut as she heard the late bell ring.

Richelle sighed, Izzy wouldn't be joining her until 2nd class, because she had a dentist appointment. This was her life, and although she didn't mind it, she still dreamt of leaving this small town, with or without Noah.

Probably without.
