Chapter Twelve:

Kerigan

"Cmon, weak ass, you can do better than that." Isaac teased as I grunted, sweat dripping off my face. He had chased and been chased through the woods, and I was slowly losing direction. I close my eyes and slowly breath in, and out.

That's it, concentrate. Focus on the energy he projects.

There! My eyes snap open and I dart forward, tackling him from the side into a clearing. I tumble as he starts laughing. I look at him and smirk.

"Good job, Little Witch." He compliments condescendingly. I roll my eyes and stand up.

"Whatever, dickhead." I snap, and start stretching, my back popping.

"You been keeping healthy?" He asks suddenly, actual genuine concern dripping from his words. I look at him in confusion and surprise.

"Uh, yeah, why?" I ask, sitting back down to stretch my hamstrings.

"You're paler than usual, you have dark circles, your reaction times are slow, and your magic is clumsy. This took Half an hour longer than it should have." He crossed his arms, looking worried.

"Oh... Uh..." I rubbed beneath my eyes, which did feel puffy. Now that the adrenaline was wearing off, I could feel the fatigue as well. "Huh... Maybe I need to feed again." I whisper to myself.

"Huh?" Isaac asks, and I shake my head, finished stretching and standing up.

"Nothing. Where are we any-" I turn, stunned to find the well behind me. I suddenly recognize the surroundings, where I first encountered the Underrealm.

You could do it right now. Jump down the well.

I felt myself take a step towards it.

No, not when they can follow. You'll die.

"Kerigan?" Grossman snaps, and I turn to find him gripping one of his knives. I stare at him and narrow my eyes, the knife cutting into his palm suddenly as he winces and drops it.

"Don't threaten me with the stupid knife. I thought I saw a light in the well. What is this anyway?" I asked in feign ignorance.

"Huh? You don't know?" He asks in surprise. I shake my head. "It's an earth well."

"What's an earth well?" I start walking back the way we came, memorizing each step.

"It's the travel point between the Underrealm and the Overrealm."

"Really? How does it work?" He looks at me.

"You don't remember?" I shake my head again.

"It- you just- you just jump down it, and poof, you're on Earth."

"Really? Seems primitive." I answer the question he never asked, and he snorts. The walk to the house was a lot shorter than I remembered. And now I made sure I remembered the walk all too well.

"Same time next week?" He asked. I nodded and smiled, fist bumping him as he left. I trotted upstairs, sneaking past a sleeping Toby into the bathroom. Stripping down out of my sweaty, stinky clothes, I step into the hot shower and sigh in relief, letting the water relax and massage my muscles.

Now you know where the Earth Well is. You need to get down it and then cut off the possibility for anyone to follow you.

You could blow up the well.

Yeah but how? Not like I have a stick of dynamite.

C4. Tell Grossman you wanna try to contain an explosion, and then use it to blow up the well after you're out.

Now how do I make a run for it and make sure I don't get a knife to the back?

Burn the house down.

"Morning..." Toby mumbles, suddenly wrapping his warm arms around me. I jump and bite my lip, glancing back at him. He smiles and kisses my neck, and I tried to hide my guilt. He was too tired to notice it anyway. "How was t-training?" He mumbles, kissing my neck again.

"Exhausting." I whisper honestly.

"You l-look pale."

"Yeah, I should probably feed again." I mumble, blushing bright red. He uses my shoulders to spin me, and steps out for a second before returning with a think razor blade. I wince and cover my mouth as he literally slices an inch long gash into his jugular.

"D-Drink up..." I bite my lip an lean forward, licking the wound. The blood starts to pour faster as I slowly close my mouth around it, lapping at the sweet, hot, red liquid. He wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me closer as he moans, and I feel my lower regions tingling as he rubs my hips possessively. Pulling back, I wipe my mouth and he grabs my face, kissing me deeply as he pulls my hips against his. I feel something hard pressing against my leg and grin.

"If you're good, blood won't be the only thing I'm sucking tonight." I whisper teasingly.

"Oh god." He groans against my skin. I latch back onto his neck.

-(✖️)-

Burn the house down? With everyone in it?

That's the best way to distract them, isn't it? If no one sees you running, they may even think you're in the fire. Get away clean. Something happened to the Earth Well, and you're clean and breezy, smooth and easy.

But if I run into someone-

Steal one or two of Brian's guns. Grab your bag of clothes. Remember, don't blow anything up until you're already on earth and you're positive you're there.

"Shit-" Toby looks out the window, his eyes widening. He glances at me and hisses "Stay here," before kissing my head and running downstairs. I hear people talking downstairs, with three new voices.

"Like hell Im staying here." I set my book down and open the door, walking towards the stairs.

The voices were louder now, one sounding English and female, one sounding very Boston-y, squeaky but a male. The other one didn't even sound human.

I got about halfway down the stairs when a head with messy black hair and huge red eyes swivels around the kitchen doorway, like it was on a bendy straw. A body follows as I stare in grotesque horror, the woman's neck entirely too long. Her lips were painted the same red as her eyes and her teeth were razor sharp.

"Is that a human? Oh boy oh boy, a human, just for me." She snaps, and I start to back up when the Boston Voice sounds from behind me.

"Eh, got enough meat on 'er bones to share, huh Pencil Neck?" The Voice comes from a small owl looking creature with huge eyes and an even bigger mouth, filled with flat dull teeth.

"Deffffinatley enough to go around." A voice hisses from my side, and I look at the stair railing to find a half humanoid creature with a mouth full of razor sharp fangs that matched the claws on its hands. I stared in horror as Pencil Neck flung her arm out, knocking Toby back.

"What the fuck are you?" I demanded, as they hissed.

"Disrespectful." Pencil neck growls as she raises one clawed hand to strike me, and I gasp, grabbing her hand and throwing it back. I stare at her in surprise at my own actions, when the Owl grabs my hands and holds them behind my back. The Creature hops on me, and I squirm, screaming in fear. Only Toby was home. And he was nearing unconsciousness from the blow. The creatures claw runs down my neck, and I scream in pain now as it sliced my skin.

"Get- OFF!" I yell, gasping as they all are thrown backwards in bone crushing speeds. I jump up and run upstairs, locking myself in the closet in Toby's room. Toby was yelling at them to leave, and it took him a bit before he sunk against the other side.

"I told you to stay here."

"Yeah, well..." I mumbled, staring at the dark door. "I'm not a very good listener."
