Love is – What you believe it is

I know

Am I happy? – Yes I am

Do I know you love me now? – Yes I do

Do I know you cannot stay? – I know

All about love

All about love

Love is

She held the last note longer than actually necessary, but she was feeling good today and her voice was just fine. Taking a small bow Stevie saw everybody coming on stage, even Mick who hadn’t made a guest appearance. Looking at the people who gathered around her she saw that one was missing, the one she had just introduced as her partner in crime, Lindsey Buckingham. Her irritated glace to the wings of the stage and the balcony where he had sat with Mick, Kristen and Lynn didn’t pass unnoticed by Mick. Going over to take Stevie in a hug he leaned down to her.

“Happy Birthday, dear.” Mick told her. “He went off with Kristen.”

“Okay.” She replied, sounding a bit pissed. “Thanks Mick. But what are you doing here?” Looking up at him Stevie laughed again.

“Thought I’d tell you where Lindsey went.”

“So you can hold me back before I go after them?” She joked.

“With you and Lindsey one never knows.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Since they had Stella you two aren’t that close anymore.”

Since they had Stella, Stevie bit back the bitter comment that tried to escape her. “Well, he had to go off impregnating a girl young enough to be our daughter.” She said. “But let’s not talk about this now. This is a party and if Lindsey decides to please his wife and miss it, well, his lost.”

“That’s the spirit.” Mick grinned at her. “You go girl.”

“I think I’m hardly a girl anymore.”

Breaking apart they joined the others for the final bow.

Stevie had hoped that Lindsey would show up again on the after – show – birthday party, but no. So she made her way home alone, just as so often in her life.

“I’ll see you tomorrow morning?” Karen asked when she pulled in in front of the front porch.

“It’ll be okay when you come round sometime in the afternoon.” Stevie said. “I don’t need any witnesses when I’ll kill Mr. Buckingham.”

“Hey, you’re the queen, you make the rules.” Karen laughed. “Have a good night and don’t be too hard on him.”

“No, he’ll survive.” Stevie laughed back. “My life would only be half as fun if I would kill him for real someday.” Leaning over to her assistant she continued. “Thank you, for everything.” She hugged Karen before getting out of the car and making her way to the front door.

Just when she stood in front of the light next to the door, looking for her keys, the door opened, causing a smile to appear on her face. When she stepped into the house, the entrance hall with the huge staircase was dark, still Stevie could make out some movements on the side of the room and up the stairs. Shaking her head she felt for the light switch, switching on the lights, noticing a big bouquet of dark red and sown white roses standing in the middle of the room. Stevie walked over but there was no card, no note and no clue to who had placed them there. And then she heard a door on the second floor being closed quietly. Sighing she left the roses where they were, deciding she would get them another, a far saver, place in the morning.
