Stevie sighed. Another interview was over, another face had been seated across from her, the same questions had been asked and the same answers had been given. She thought that if someone would wake her up in the middle of the night, shooting question after question at her, she could go back to sleep and still be able to do that interview. And the day was far from over. Sighing again, she allowed her thoughts to wander.
Her time in England had been great. Stevie had found her inner gypsy again. It seemed as if it had been ages since she had last been alone for such a long time. She had gone out a few times, meeting with old friends from London. But the best time had been the couple of days she had kept free and escaped London, visiting Christine. It was as if they had been taken back in time.
Well, nearly. Not being used to staying up until the early morning hours anymore, on the first evening Stevie had fallen asleep on the couch. That, of course, had earned her quite some teasing the next morning. She had enjoyed the time with Christine. There were no obligations, no need to get up and ready for another day full of interviews and no need to worry about getting three kids out of the house in the morning. It wasn't as if she didn't miss the three whirlwinds who stormed through her life. In fact she had made Karen to arrange her schedule so she would have an hour or two off every day and she could call home. It was just that she had a few weeks off from being a wife and mother, a few weeks to be "the old Stevie".
There was a knock on the door, announcing her next interview partner. Stevie shook her head, trying to clear all thoughts of her family. If there was one thing she wouldn't need, it was thinking about how much she actually longed to be back in LA. Looking up her eyes fell on the man she would talk to about her life. And with a strange feeling she began the interview.
"Another recurring theme on "In Your Dreams" is the idea of love as fleeting." Simon Price said.
"Certainly it is for me, in my life as a travelling woman who is never anywhere for long, and will be gone the morning after the big show." And I'm so looking forward to be gone Monday afternoon Stevie thought. "There's a line on 'In Your Dreams' that goes 'I'm always in and out of your light', and to lovers, ex-lovers, people we used to love, people we don't even love any more, I'm saying 'You'll never be rid of me, I'm right down the middle of all your dreams'. It's like Lindsey and me: no matter how many children or grandchildren you have, Lindsey, I'm always gonna be there. We have these three marvelous children..." She stopped when hearing Karen cough over her last few words. "Karen, are you alright, Honey?" Stevie asked, standing up and going over to her assistant.
"It's gonna be fine." Karen answered, still sounding a bit breathless.
"You're sure, cause you don't sound like it." Stevie watched Karen closely, seeing that she wanted to tell her something. "Can you excuse me for a moment?" Stevie turned to the journalist.
Taking Karen by her hand Stevie lead her out of the room and closed to door.
"Can you please tell me what this is all about?" Stevie whispered.
"You messed up." Karen said before coughing falsely again. "You said we have. I just wanted to make sure he won't be able to hear that when writing his article."
"Please tell me I didn't." Stevie grimaced and brought her hands up to bury her face in them.
She turned around, not wanting to face anything or anyone at that moment. In the past there had been moments when she had caught herself in the last moment from letting something slip, either about still being with Lindsey or about their children. But so far Stevie had always been able to cover up alone. This time she hadn't even been thinking about what she had said, her thoughts being back in California already. And if it hadn't been for all the promotion for her to do in England, she would have taken the next flight home after the Glamour Awards. But since there was a CD to promote she needed to stay just where she was.
