I was in my Pokeball, curled asleep on the floor, when an abrupt flash of light awoke me. I stumbled a little as I was released, and Aurora snickered.

"Don't judge me, I'm not used to it," I grumbled, shaking my head out. "Where are we?"

"Sweet Grove, obviously," Aurora yawned. "It's just you, me and Ben. Well, he's booking a hotel right now. The gym's over there-" she pointed to a large yellow building- "-and we're fighting today."

My stomach gave a jolt. "B-But, what if we fail? I didn't train-"

"Ben says he know's your talented, we've fought you, remember?" She smiled. "Dark's immune to Physic and I still won... And Sapphire beat a Fire type... Yeah, I think we'll win."

    "We'll win because I lost?"

    "No, we don't need you."

We had a silent staring contest until Aurora burst out laughing. "Get a joke! Do you really think I'd mean that?"

I gave her a nervous smile and studied the gym. "Who do you think we're fighting today?"

She shrugged. "No idea. Actually, I'm going to name a random Pokemon, and you'll tell me your strategy. Lesson time."

    "Lesson ti-?"

    "Male Haunter!" Aurora said fiercely.

I blinked. "How is this going to help-"

"Too late, he already used Lick and paralyzed you," Aurora sighed. "Let's try again. Female Bulbasaur!"

    "Uh, I use Psycho Cut..."

"Good! The Bulbasaur uses Vine Whip."

I swallowed. "I use Bite on her vine."

She nodded approvingly, and we went on like this until Ben came back. He then let out Sapphire and Shadow, who glanced at us.

Sapphire crossed her arms teasingly. "I hope you spend time with me next, otherwise I wouldn't know you as well as those two do." She gestured to Shadow and Aurora.

"What's going on?" Shadow inquired, gazing around. "I'm guessing this is Sweet Grove Town, actually... Is that the Golden Gym?"

"Yes, and we're fighting today," I informed them.

Shadow nodded. "Good, I've been wanting to have another Gym Battle," he said, stretching.

Ben checked his watch and said, "the battle's in an hour," he said. "I hope you're ready."

Surprisingly enough, I didn't feel as enraged as when Britney rushed me into a battle. Now I'm actually prepared, and I have friends...

Self-consciously I looked at my Pokemon companions. Did they think of me as friends?

Of course they do, I scolded myself. How could I think that? We are friends!

"Our first battler will be... Ben Straw!"

The announcer's voice echoed through the arena as Ben walked in. He was holding Shadow's Pokeball, and me, Sapphire, and Aurora were watching from the glass. The Golden Gym was a lot like the Silver Gym, except this one had a glass roof.

"Our second battler will be.... Liana Drona!"

I watched curiously as a lady walked into the arena. She looked to be about nineteen or twenty, with long, flaming red hair, and a black and white jacket with a Pokeball symbol in the middle. A smile was on her face, lit with something mysterious.

"Battlers, please release your Pokemon."

Ben clicked his Pokeball and let out Shadow. He barred his teeth at Liana, his gaze set on the Pokeball she just brought out. With a click she released her Pokemon.

Seeing how she looked, with perfect flowing hair and the smirk on her face, I expected something big like a Charizard or a Samurott.

But the Pokemon that just appeared was none other than a nervous-looking Pidgey, inching back away from Shadow.

The announcer also seemed shocked, for he said nothing until someone from the stands coughed. "Uh- oh, right! On your marks, get set.... FIGHT!"

"Shadow, use Quick Attack!"

The Zorua darted forward, but hit nothing, since Liana had sent the Pidgey back into the Pokeball. Instantly whispers flew across the crowd.

"Why would she do that?" Sapphire breathed. "Trainers are only allowed to do that once in a battle!"

The announcer said, stunned, "And Liana has decided to bring back her Pokemon! Liana, please select a new fighter."

Liana reached into her bag and slowly drew out a purple ball. The whispers grew louder.

"That's a Master Ball," Aurora exclaimed.

Liana clicked the Master Ball, and the flash of light was so oddly large I was blinded for half a second. Then I saw her Pokemon.

It was a large, white dragon... One I've only seen in my dreams...

"Impossible," Aurora whispered, her voice cracking.

This was Reshiram.
