??? POV
For Hex's protection...
I shall follow the Espeon's arrow and see where it takes me. He has found his friend's sign, and there's no doubt about it that he's going to follow it himself. And that's what friends do- we protect each other. I've been trained well enough that I could defeat any rogue Espeon (or whoever else is out there, I guess).
It brought me to a wide, grassy field, with a tree or two dotting the emptiness. The moon shone down on it, and I put a paw above my eyes to see, like a salute to no one.
I sprinted forward across the grass, my aura vision switched to on. I couldn't see any living beings, to my relief.
I stopped in the grass, breathing heavily, debating what to do. There obviously weren't any living beings around here, except for a couple blue blurs in the forest to my left...
Actually... There's a big cluster of blurs way out far in that forest... That's interesting...
I glanced back at the mountains, where I could make out the tiny blue shapes of Hex and the others, beginning to climb down the mountain. I could show myself to Hex, but he has all those other friends with him... I couldn't do that with them there... I could also check out that large amount of Pokemon.
But the latter's probably not important. Probably just a bunch of Bulbasaurs getting ready to evolve.
What would Hex do?
I exhaled, looking down at my paws. Hex would have gone into the forest, because so many living beings in one place is quite unnatural.
Well, the old Hex would.
This Hex hangs out with humans and follows creepy ominous signs that are obviously traps.
In surprise I held my paw in front of my face, wondering if it would be someone else's. I don't think things like that about Hex! He was a wonderful friend! He was my only friend! He said it would just be the two of us forever and ever, because that's what friends do for each other!
I only then realized that there was a tear running down my face. Quickly I wiped it away, furious with myself.
And furious with Hex.

Dare POV
"Why do you think Aurora went this way?" Shadow asked as we clambered down the mountain. "I mean, wouldn't she and Ben have gone the other way to find us?"
"I don't know," I replied, biting my lip. "At least they told us they went this way, and didn't just leave us confused."
"Good point," Shadow said, and the discussion ended.
Sapphire abruptly halted in front of me, and I crashed into her. She ignored me and stared ahead into the field, her amber eyes wide.
"There's a Lucario in the field," she said quietly.
I froze, searching the tall grasses, until I saw the Pokemon. It was difficult to see, since it was so dark and shadowy, but Sapphire was right. That was definitely a Lucario, facing away from us.
Something stirred in my mind, but I couldn't quite catch it.
"Let's go talk to it," Shadow suggested.
Julie pursed her lips. "Is it safe? I mean... Lucarios are very strong and powerful..."
"So?" Shadow said pointedly. Julie blinked but didn't respond.
Sapphire darted forward into the grass. "Excuse me?" She called, raising her voice. "Have you seen an Esp-"
The Lucario jumped, glancing over its shoulder at Sapphire. Instantly it covered it's face with its paw and sprinted towards the forest, it's head low. Sapphire hesitated, raising her hand. "No- what? Where are you going? We need to find an Espeon!" She called.
The wild Lucario either didn't hear, or it was ignoring her. It vanished into the woods, and Sapphire stopped in the field.
I was still struggling to figure out why that Lucario bothered me so much as Sapphire trekked back to us. She exhaled.
"Anti-social," she muttered under her breath. "What was up with that?"
"I don't know..." I whispered, fixing my gaze on the dusty ground. "I really don't know."
