Salma's P.O.V.
Salma noticed small holes in some of her clothes a few days ago. When her mother found out, she reacted like Salma had a personal nest of scorpions stashed in her closet. Jumping to the conclusion that her wardrobe was infested with pests, Alley ordered her and Asim to fumigate it immediately. Salma tried to weasel out, but after Agha Gul and Ghamey's parents left to take the old man for his routine checkup, fumigating Salma's cupboard become the only thing on her mother's to-do list, apparently.
Asim and Salma set to spray the wardrobe after putting her clothes and drawers out in the sun to heat-kill the invisible 'bugs'. Asim was greatly annoyed for getting chorus out of nowhere. However, when it gave the two the privacy to discuss the recent events, both of them somewhat welcomed the task.
For instance, Asim told her about Fahad's visit to his room, shortly before the rest of the guests woke up.
"Did he really?" Salma's eyes widened with shock.
Asim adjusted the mask on his face.
"Yeah," he replied, his voice coming out muffled. "I couldn't believe it either. I feel sorry for him to be honest. He's in quite a bit of a pinch himself. I would not want to marry someone I don't like."
"Tell me about it." Salma laughed dryly.
"It's weird though," Asim said, "Agha Gul really dislikes dad. I just can't figure out why he would want to make more family ties with him."
Salma said nothing as she put the spray cans away. Both of them sat down in front of her room, each following their own train of thoughts.
"So what happens next?"
Asim shrugged.
"Can't say. One thing is for sure though, Aunt is going to bear the brunt of it once Agha Gul is back."
Salma's heart went out to Aunt Farhiya. Was there really no way out for her?
"I'm scared for her, to be honest," she whispered.
"Me too," Asim replied. "I hope she gets out of this mess unharmed."
After an hour or so, the wardrobe and the cupboards were dry. While Salma swept out the dirt, Asim opened the windows, and packed away the spray cans.
"I guess you can bring your stuff back in," he said.
Nodding in agreement, Salma headed towards the backyard to get her things. They were strewn around the place, heating up in the sun. She picked up one of the drawers and loaded it randomly. Much to her dismay, she crossed paths with Ghamey on her way back to her room.
"Looks like daddy got you temporary respite?"
Temporary? Salma scoffed.
"Looks like someone is still clinging on to false hope?" She countered.
Ghamey let out an inhuman laugh.
"We'll see who is clinging on to false hope," Ghamey leered. "You, your father, and your nutcase of a brother will all come to your senses soon."
Salma swallowed as dread starting sinking it's claws in her again.
"A word of advice, the more you behave, the less you'll have to deal with later."
"Whatever." Salma rolled her eyes, ignoring the chills that ran down her spine at his threat.
Ghamey paused. His eyes landed on something lying in the mess in the drawer. Salma was annoyed when he reached for it, but her blood ran cold when he held it up.
