{Song for this chapter; Iris - Sleeping With Sirens ((originally by the goo goo dolls))}

• Emilia's pov •

"Flight 23 to San Diego, California is boarding now," a voice came over on the intercom, warning me about my flight.

Mandy stood up from the chair she was sitting on, a sad look on her face. I stood up, too, my carry on in my right hand. "I don't want you to leave," she said, trying to avoid my eyes.

I sighed. "Look, Mandy, I'll be back before you know it, okay?" I asked, but she didn't answer, only tears started to fall from her eyes. "Aw, don't cry. You'll make me cry." I pulled Mandy into a tight hug.

She started to cry, hard. "You're right. It's only a month. You'll be back, right?" she asked in between sobs.

I nodded. "Well, hopefully," I thought. Like I said before, I just need a break. But if I seem like I'm more relaxed there, well, I don't know if I'd come back. I would never tell Mandy that, though. Especially not now.

"I have to go, Mandy," I said, trying to full away from her hug, but failed because of her tight grip on my leather jacket.

"I'm sorry," she said, her tears staining my jacket. She let go of me and pulled away from the hug. "Goodbye, Em."

"Don't say goodbye," I said, a mother like tone in my voice. "Goodbye means we'll never see each other again. And we will."

Mandy nodded, smiling through her tears. "See ya later, Emilia," she whispered, wiping her tears away.

I smiled back. "See ya," I said, turning around and walking towards my flight to San Diego.

"Don't forget to call me when you land!" Mandy yelled after me, grabbing everyone's attention in seconds.

I blushed, turned my head, and nodded. "Of course."

During the entire plane ride, I couldn't stop thinking about Tony. It really bothered me how I only came here to get away from him and now he's still here. Only, he's in my mind, torturing me with every single thought.

The teenage girl who sat beside me didn't exactly help. She was wearing a 'Pierce The Veil' sweatshirt, a whole bunch of different kinds of band bracelets, and even a turtle guitar pick connected to a chain around her neck. It was all too much. Which was why I spent half of the plane ride in the washroom, hoping that she'd get the hint and leave.

On the other side of me sat an old man who I actually chatted with a little bit. He even shared some of his grapes with me. His name was Elliot DeGardo. He was a very nice man and I hoped to sit with him on my way back, again. I actually didn't think of Tony at all when I talked with Elliot. It was a new feeling that I enjoyed, a lot.

"If you'll all fasten your seat belts, we will be landing in just a few minutes," the female flight attendant said over the voice speaker.

When I walked off of the plane and into the airport, hundreds of people were all looking for their loved ones. I couldn't see my mother or Craig anywheres. Bad thoughts started to run through my head, like they forgot about me or they changed their minds.

My phone started to ring in my carry on. I say down on a bench near where my suitcase was suppose to come off of. I zipped open my carry on and started to search for my phone. "Hello?" I asked when I found my phone and answered the call.

"Halley, darling, where are you?" Mom asked, I could hear voices in the background. I cringed when she called me Halley. It still pains me to hear that come out of a person's mouth, and I just don't know why.

"I'm sitting on a bench near a fountain. I don't know if that'l--"

"Oh! I see you!" She hung up and I heard feet tapping, fast. I'm impressed. My mother is forty-eight and she can still run like that. "There you are!" she said, pulling me into a hug once I stood up from the bench. "Oh I missed you so much, honey. We have some catching up to do." She took my carry on from me and I went to go get my bag.

People all around me were chatting with their friends or family, whilst watching for their suitcase carefully. "So, tell me," Mom said, grinning from ear to ear, staring at the suitcases also, "when'd you get these tattoos?" She pointed to specific tattoos that were on my wrist.

I pulled my sleeve up a bit further to show her the quotation marks I got about a year ago. They were black and only one was on each wrist. She stared at them, fascinated. Then her eyes started to scan my back, which was no longer covered by my leather jacket. My dandelion tattoo that turned into little dust particles was on my back. It had to be my favourite out of the three I've gotten.

My mother grabbed my hand in hers. "They're beautiful, honey. I'm trying to decide which one is prettier," she laughed.

I smiled, grabbing my suitcase and pulling it towards my right hand. "I've always thought that the one on my back was the prettiest."

She nodded, pulling my carry further up her shoulder. "I kinda thought that, too." Mom let go of my hand to put it around my shoulder. "You've gotten shorter over the year," she said.

My mom has always been taller than me and she always made fun of my height. She was about 5"7, while I was standing at 5"4. "I know," I said, smiling at the memories when I was always so excited to grow taller. It just never really happened. "And you've gotten a little greyer." I started to play with her hair, twirling it around my finger and letting it go a second later.

She laughed sarcastically at my comment, squeezing my shoulder into her. "Whatever little, Sassy Sally."
