REALITY CHECK : Silence

Silence is bliss. It would let you fly to the highest of highs and dive into the deepest of deeps. It would make you hear the music you've always wanted to hear and show you a world you've been dreading to see. It lets every neuron of your brain have their own opinion and your ears harken to each of them.

Silence is another world one can never let go; because silence is addiction. It is yet the best reality one could ever have. It is the fantasy ever experienced.

Even so, you have a choice: ignore it or entertain it. But beware: once you entertain it, there is no turning back.

Because silence is also a golden cage one cannot escape. You see, silence is like a crystal ball which could show you everything, and when I say everything it includes the negatives. It is a craving you could never satisfy so you'll end up tasting it, feeling it, again and again... and again.

And the more time you spend with it, the deeper it would take you: to deepest thoughts and realities, to the darkest ideas and memories, to the worst decisions and regrets; silence would show you all of it.

As you look into a mirror, silence would make you see the real person behind the image you created on the surface of the glass. It would show you the person nobody ever met, perhaps not even you. It would show you the different kinds of angels inside you and the devils you tried to starve for so long.

Silence would make you hear the voices you've always ignored: the shriek in your fake laughter, the groan behind your smiles, even that evil chuckle when you portray sympathy, everything.

Because silence is the self you've always been yet you're afraid to be. And once you had a glimpse of it, your mind would never forget. It would always linger in one corner of your brain and once in a while tempt your heart. Even when you deafen your ears in noises or drown your thoughts in music, you would hear silence one way or another.

And even when you try your very best to ignore it, the next sec, you would just find yourself listening to it again, being lulled into a slumber you'd die to wake. Because silence is a one-way ticket, there's no returning back to your dear ole self before you entertained it, there's no forgetting.

Oh, yes, silence is bliss; but it is also perdition. Because silence the self of yours who craved for a long, long, time to be acknowledged, and to never again be forgotten...

Now, darling, what would you do with your silence?
