"Hazardous"
Chapter 5
Emily's POV
We were walking hand in hand as we set off walking down the alleys heading for my house. The wind had picked up making me shiver. Jay had noticed this as he let go off my hand and wrapped his arm around my shoulder bringing me close next to his body. I instantly felt the heat radiating off his body making me heat up slightly. I usually wouldn't off hesitated to shrug his shoulder off me but I was too cold to bother.
Jay was surprisingly silent, obviously trying to avoid the subject that he knew I so badly wanted to talk about. He knew I wanted some answers. We eventually reached my doorstep after the extremely silent, but surprisingly not awkward walk back. I unlocked the front door as I knew both my parents wouldn't be home. They are always working night shifts as they are doctors.
I lead Jay to the kitchen where the first aid kit was. He was sat on the kitchen counter watching my movements intently. I brought out the small bottle of alcohol and some cotton wool. After pouring a small amount of the liquid onto the cotton, I walked over to him standing between his legs. I could feel his breath on my face as I leant forward to place the cotton on his lip to clean the cut.
He slightly hissed as the alcohol cleaned the cut.
"Sorry" I muttered feeling slightly bad as I pressed down on the cotton adding pressure to the cut. Once I had finished cleaning the cuts on both his lip and forehead I went to get an ice pack for the bruise I noticed on his right cheek.
Before I could get out of the stance I was in, which was between his legs he wrapped his arms around me bringing me in for a hug.
"Thankyou Emily" he huskily spoke before releasing me letting me go and get the ice pack.
When I had returned Jay was no longer in the kitchen. I walked into the lounge and saw him sat on the sofa, his head held in his hands. I walked over to him and sat next to him passing him the ice pack.
"Are you alright Jay?" I shyly asked, quite nervous about approaching the subject of what happened earlier.
"Yep everything's just dandy" he snapped. I was taken back by his harsh response.
"I'm sorry" he sighed "it's just I don't want to talk about it".
"It's fine. But can you promise me one thing?"
He nodded an uncomfortable look on his face as he was probably wondering what promise I wanted him to keep seeing as we had only known each other a mere week.
"Promise me that you will one day tell me what happened tonight. I just want to help you, that's all" I asked. My mind was screaming at me to just leave it and stop getting involved in the dangerous unknown but the stubborn side of me was so intrigued as to what secrets Jay held. That part overruled me and I knew that there was no turning back. I wanted to get to known the real Jay. As he sat next to me now looking extremely vulnerable at the question I had asked, I knew I wanted to look past the opinions everyone had told me about him. About him being a hazard and a player. I wanted to know the true him.
His voice broke me out of my thoughts
"I can't promise you anything Emily. But maybe one day I can tell you what happened tonight, but it's not safe for you to know at the moment."
I nodded understanding what he meant, although I was slightly thrown back when he said it wasn't safe. This made me question how much trouble he was in, it was obviously serious. I decided to change the subject before I began to overthink everything.
"So where were you today? You missed school?" I asked intrigued to know his answer. We were now sat extremely close on the sofa, our legs slightly brushing.
