"Hazardous"
Chapter 6
Emily's POV
I woke up the next morning feeling a draft entering my bedroom; as I turned to the right in my bed I realised that the window to my room was open. As I yawned and got out of the comfort on my bed I had realised that Jay was no longer here. Although I hadn't expected him to stay the whole night, a small part of me wished that he did. My heart sunk slightly at the thought of him just leaving in the night after he had promised to stay as it was late. As I stood up to go downstairs and get breakfast I noticed a note folded over on my bedside dresser with my name on the front.
Dear Emily,
Thanks for looking after me last night and letting me stay. I left early this morning as I noticed your parents were back and I didn't want you to get into trouble. Thanks again.

After I had read the brief note a small smile crept on my face. It was clear to me now that he had obviously left my house using the balcony railings. I walked over to the window and made sure it was shut as it was a horrible windy day today.
As it was a Saturday I thought that I would spend the day at home as I was quite tired from my first week at this new school. I wasn't really sure what there was to do in this town so I knew what my plans were going to be for the day.
I quickly got dressed after having a shower and straightening my hair. I had made sure to wear clothes appropriate for the weather so I wore skinny jeans, a jumper and a scarf with a hat. Once I was ready I walked downstairs to see my mum sat at the kitchen table with her head in her hands sighing.
"What's wrong mum" I quickly asked feeling a sense of panic flush over me as endless thoughts ran through my mind to the cause of her distress. The sound of my voice had obviously scared her as she slightly jumped out of the seat she was sat on and turned to face me.
"Nothing's wrong dear, work is just a bit stressful that's all"
I walked over to her giving her a hug.
"Why don't you ask for some time off" I questioned her, worried that she was going to get overtired due to her hectic work schedule.
"No Emily it's done don't worry about me" she weakly smiled before walking over to the kettle preparing a cup of tea.
"Where's dad?" I asked her realising that my father obviously wasn't home.
"He got called into work early this morning, there was an emergency surgery that he needed to perform."
I frowned at the thought of never really getting to spend time with my dad or either of my parents really for the matter as they were always busy working.
Once I had finished talking to my mum, still feeling worried about her under all of the stress of her new job, I texted Chloe, Leah and Rachael asking them if they wanted to meet up and go shopping or show me round town. I instantly got a reply from Rachael saying she was free and that the other girls messaged me saying sorry that they were busy and we could meet up another time.
I had made plans with Rachael to meet her later in the evening and go bowling as she said that it was the place that everyone hung out at as it was a fun place. I decided that for the rest of the afternoon I would just go for a stroll around the neighbourhood. As I was walking I noticed a children's play park that had a few families with their younger children pushing them on the swings. I decided to take a seat on one of the park benches and clear my mind. Since yesterday evening my thoughts had been non stop thinking about Jay. I had so many questions I wanted to ask him, but most of all who was Derrick. The threatening look he had given me before waking away was etched in my mind, making me feel paranoid about even just sitting on this park bench alone.
