Glenn looked down at his watch again and sighed. “It’s already 8,” he said with a sigh. “She has to come out sooner or later.” He whirled round in circles on his chair, ignoring the stacks of paper piled up on his table.

Just then, he saw a shadow creep past his door and immediately jumped up from his chair. “About time,” he muttered to himself as he pulled open the door to his office. He spotted Kara in her office and knocked on the door, making her jump.

“G-Glenn! I didn’t see you there,” she stammered, immediately dropping what she was holding. “I thought you had already left.” “I’ve been waiting for you,” he admitted as she continued packing her bag. She glanced up at him when he said that before turning to stare the floor.

Glenn simply stared at her as she stood up and brushed past him on her way out. “Kara, what happened to your eye?” he asked as she squeezed past him. He saw her freeze and she turned around slowly to face him. “Nothing’s wrong with it,” she said quietly, looking down at her feet.

Glenn looked her dead in the eye before reaching out to brush away the hair that fell over her eyes. “It’s badly bruised Kara,” he said gently, noticing how she flinched when he touched her. “It’s nothing,” Kara said gruffly as she shuffled her feet. “I just walked into a wall this morning.”

“Oh so you were late this morning because you walked into a wall?” Glenn questioned, his eyes blazing. There was hesitance in Kara’s eyes as she slowly nodded and said, “Yes, that’s why I was late this morning. I already explained it to Calvin just now.”

Glenn shook his head and said, “You can lie to Calvin, but you can’t lie to me Kara. Someone hit you, isn’t it? That’s why your lip was bleeding as well.” Kara opened her mouth to respond but felt her throat go dry. “I just tripped and fell, honestly,” she stuttered, shuffling back and forth.

“Kara, if your boyfriend is hitting you it’s nothing to be ashamed of,” Glenn said gently. Kara jerked backwards and said harshly, “No one’s hitting me. I’m serious, I had an accident.” “Sometimes people hit each other accidentally as well,” Glenn pressed on, noticing how Kara was close to tears.

“Shut up Glenn. Just shut up already,” Kara seethed as tears started rolling down her face. “Yes, my boyfriend hits me. So what?” “I can help you,” Glenn suggested. “You know, beat him up or something.” Kara laughed darkly and said, “Oh sure. Beat Johnny up for me so that I can go home and get beat up myself. Isn’t that fun?”

Glenn looked at her trembling chin before pulling her in for a hug, something she graciously accepted. “If you ever need help, I’m here okay? Don’t hesitate to ask,” Glenn said softly, rubbing her back consolingly. “Thanks Glenn,” she whispered into his shirt.

The sound of someone clearing their throat startled them, and Glenn looked up in time to see Estella storming off. “Shoots,” he muttered, immediately letting Kara go and running after Estella.

“Estella, wait,” he said as he caught up with her. “Wait for what Glenn? You to finish hugging that skinny bitch?” Estella hissed, her voice dripping with anger. “It was a misunderstanding Estella. She’s my colleague, boss technically,” he explained.

Estella rolled her eyes and said, “Oh please. You expect me to believe this shit? Nice try Glenn.” “I’m being serious Estella,” Glenn said, obviously hurt. “Why won’t you believe me?”

“Believe you? Why should I-” Estella said before she was cut off. “It’s true,” Kara said softly as she walked up to the two of them. “I was having a bad day and he was just asking me about it.” Estella raised her eyebrow and looked Kara up and down before saying, “Well, you aren't pretty enough to be Glenn’s type.”

Glenn’s jaw dropped in shock when he heard what Estella had said, but Kara simply ignored her and walked past them to the lifts. “Fine, I believe you,” Estella said, looping her arm around Glenn’s. “She looked a lot prettier from the back but now that I’ve seen her, definitely not your type.”

“Oh so now you think you know what my type is?” Glenn asked quietly before storming off. He heard Estella sigh behind him and say, “Glenn Chua, what’s wrong now?” He whirled around and said, “This is what’s wrong. You think you know me a 100% but you don’t yet. And you can’t just criticize people like that. What if you hurt her feelings?”

“Hurt her feelings?” Estella cackled. “She’s not 5 Glenn, she can handle the truth.” Glenn rolled his eyes and stormed down the stairs to the car park, too furious to wait for the lift. He heard Estella behind him but ignored her and stalked over to his car, slamming the door shut after he got in.

“Gosh Glenn. If you aren’t together with her why do you care so much for her?” Estella whined as she slid in next to him. “It’s called courtesy Estella. Something you clearly do not practice,” Glenn said with a sigh. He saw her freeze next to him before pushing open the car door and storming out.

Sighing as he got out of the car, Glenn said, “Estella wait.” She stopped in her tracks and turned to him and said, “Why should I?” Glenn reached for her hands and looked into her eyes. Taking a deep breath, he said, “Look Estella. I really love you a lot, and I hope you know that.  What happened with Kara just now was a misunderstanding between us, and I hope it never happens again. I love you, and I’m not going to let anything separate us.”

Estella looked at him before breaking into a smile and hugging him. “I’m sorry for being so rude too,” she said as she stepped back. He smiled at her and together they walked back towards the car.

As Glenn leaned over to peck Estella on the lips before pulling out of the lot, he couldn’t help but feel just the tiniest bit guilty. He couldn’t seem to get rid of that image of Kara crying out of his head.
