Kara rolled over in bed and turned to look at Glenn who was still sleeping. She smiled to herself when she saw how peaceful he looked, very much unlike his usual self. She picked up her phone and rolled her eyes when she saw that Johnny had texted her. She dropped him a short message telling him she was at Glenn’s before turning back to Glenn.

“Morning Kara,” Glenn mumbled as his eyes fluttered open. “Morning dear,” Kara said as she pecked Glenn on the forehead. Glenn sat up and mussed up her hair saying, “Come on, I’ll make us some breakfast.” He grabbed her hand and led her out of his room.

They raced each other down the stairs, and Kara tried to lock Glenn out. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this happy,” Glenn said with a chuckle as he leaned on the counter. “Same goes for you,” Kara said with a shrug.

“So what do you want for breakfast?” Glenn asked. “I can make waffles if you want.” Kara looked at Glenn with her lips pursed and said, “You can make waffles?” “Sure,” Glenn said with a cheeky grin. “Just let me Google a recipe.”

Kara chuckled and said, “Come on, let me make them instead.” Glenn smiled to himself and sat down at the counter, watching Kara at work in the kitchen. “You look really cute when you’re working in the kitchen,” Glenn said as he made them both a cup of coffee.

Just then the doorbell rang. Glenn sipped his cup of coffee and stood up and said with a sigh, “I’ll get it.” He walked over to the door and pulled it open, only to find Johnny standing there.

“Johnny? What are you doing here?” Glenn stuttered as he leaned against the door frame.  “I think you know the answer to that question,” Johnny snarled as he stepped across the threshold.

“Johnny, get out,” Glenn said quietly as he stepped in front of Johnny. Johnny glared at Glenn and hissed, “My girlfriend just spent the night at your house. I think I have the right to be here.”

Glenn bit his lip and said slowly, “About Kara being your girlfriend…” Johnny froze and looked over at Glenn, his face becoming dark. The door to the kitchen opened and Kara slipped out, stumbling when she saw Johnny.

“J-J-J-Johnny? What are you doing here,” Kara stuttered as she walked over to Glenn. “Looking for you Kara,” Johnny snarled. “Come on, let’s go home.”

“I need to speak to you Johnny,” Kara said quietly as she looped her arm around Glenn’s. Johnny’s eyes followed her hand and he sucked in a breath. “You two are dating aren’t you,” Johnny said darkly, his eyes flashing.

Kara looked at him, at a loss for words. She slowly nodded and said, “But we just got together Johnny. Just yesterday really.” Johnny laughed darkly and said, “Oh really? You’ve probably been dating behind my back secretly.”

Glenn rolled his eyes and said, “Don’t bother explaining anything to him Kara. He’ll just never believe you.” Johnny rolled his eyes and said, “You really chose him over me Kara? God you’re stupider than I thought.”

Glenn saw Kara’s chin tremble and he stepped forward and said, “Johnny, you really need to go, now.” Johnny wanted to say more, but he saw the hardened look in Glenn’s eyes and turned around to leave.

Just as Johnny was about to step out of the door, Kara said, “Wait Johnny.” Johnny stopped and turned around with a sigh saying, “What do you want now Kara?”

“I owe you an explanation,” Kara said softly. “You deserve to know why I’m leaving you.” Johnny’s expression relaxed for a moment before he turned to stare at the floor. “You have two minutes,” was all he said.

“You should know why I’m leaving you Johnny. You’ve been abusing me for almost four months, and I’ve been tolerating it. You knew my broken past and yet you still chose to treat me the way you did. Over time I’ve come to realize that no one deserves to be treated and feel the way I did,”    Kara said as she looked at him.

“I’m going to start standing up for myself and change the way I live. I gave you chance after chance to change and yet you continued to treat me the way you did, and I refuse to let you continue. I’ve given this a lot of thought, and I think it’s best if we went our own separate ways, and I decided to stop taking you back,” she said softly, looking at the floor.

Johnny looked up at her when she was done and for a second looked like he was going to say something. But he just turned around and slammed the door on the way out.

“I’m sorry,” Glenn murmured into her hair. Kara shrugged her shoulders and said, “It’s alright. Come on, let’s go tackle those waffles. I’m starving.”

She dragged Glenn into the kitchen behind her and handed him a plate of waffles. “Here,” she said as she handed him a fork. Glenn broke off a piece of waffle and chewed in silence for a while before saying, “Perfect, just like you.”
