Glenn stared down at his phone and sighed. It had been two months since Kara had moved out, and things hadn't really been going well since. The team was starting to become suspicious despite their efforts to cover up what was going on.
There was a knock on his door and he looked up to see Matthew standing in the doorway. "Sir, can I come in?" Matthew asked. Glenn nodded and sat up in his chair as Matthew closed the door behind him and sat down across him.
"Sir, is everything okay between you and Ma'am?" Matthew asked quietly. Glenn felt a lump in his throat, but nodded saying, "Of course it is. Why do you ask?"
Matthew gave him a small smile and said, "Sir, I see the way the two of you look at each other. Something's definitely not right." Glenn sighed and closed his eyes. After a while, he said, "You're right. She had a fight with my mum and moved out to stay with a friend two months ago. She told me she needed time to think."
"I know I'm not one to give advice, but you should talk to her Sir," Matthew said. "You think so?" Glenn asked quietly. "What if things go wrong again?" "There's no harm trying Sir," Matthew said gently. "It's evident you two still love each other. So why not salvage the relationship while you can."
Glenn mulled over his words for a while before nodding slowly and saying, "I guess you're right." Matthew smiled at him and said, "Good luck Sir." As Matthew stood up to leave, Glenn said, "Thanks Matthew."
After packing up his things, Glenn climbed into his car and texted Sharon, asking for her address. He sat in the car silently for a while before his phone beeped with Sharon's reply. As he started the car, he made a silent prayer for everything to turn out fine.
Pulling up in front of Sharon's house, he spotted Kara's car parked by the side of the road. Sharon had told Glenn that she and Joyce were heading out to celebrate their anniversary and that there was a spare key in the mailbox.
Glenn dug around for the keys in the mailbox, before slowly extricating the keys from the mailbox. As he let himself in the house, he noticed a pair of Converse shoes on the door. That seemed a little out of place, as he knew for a fact that the women living the house only wore heels.
As he pushed open the front door quietly, he could hear voices coming from the living room. He closed the door quietly behind him and walked towards the living room. He spotted Kara talking to someone else.
Glenn stood behind a fake wall leading to the living room, eavesdropping on their conversation. "You probably should tell him that you still love him," the guy said. "I would Josh, but I just don't know how to tell him that," Kara said with a sigh.
"Well, you should at least tell him that you've been going for therapy sessions and taking medications, "Josh said quietly. Glenn felt shocked at what he had just heard, and closed his eyes.
"I don't know how he would take it," Kara said quietly. "I haven't even told Sharon or Joyce that I've been going to see a psychiatrist. Only you know that I've been going for sessions."
"Well, I'm glad you're attending sessions with me," Josh said with a smile, which Kara returned. "It's fine, I'm just worried about what Glenn will say when he finds out. He's been persuading me since we started going out, but I've never agreed to it. He might think something else," Kara said.
Glenn slowly opened his eyes and slowly walked towards the door, letting himself out of the house. He put the keys back in the mailbox. As he climbed into his car, Glenn could feel tears welling up on his eyes.
After all they had been through, Kara was still putting him first in the relationship. But one thing struck him though. Throughout their entire relationship, Kara had always objected to taking medication or going to see a psychiatrist. So who was this Josh who actually managed to convince her to do what he had had been unable to achieve?
A knock on his window startled him, and he looked up to see Sharon. "Hey, how did it go?" Sharon asked as Glen wound down the window. "I uh..." Glenn mumbled to himself.
Realization dawned on Joyce and she winced saying, "She was with Josh, wasn't she?" Glenn nodded and asked, "Who is this Josh?" Sharon nodded at Joyce and said, "Josh is her brother."
"And he's going out with Kara?" Glenn asked sullenly. "We're not actually sure... They've been spending a lot of time together but nothing seems to be happening," Sharon said.
There was a drawn out silence before Glenn started the engine. "Thanks guys," he said before pulling off. Glenn spent his entire ride home trying to control his emotions. Was Kara really in a new relationship with Josh?
Looking at himself in the mirror later that night, the question still bothered Glenn. Was Kara really in a relationship with someone else? Or was Josh just a shoulder for her to lean on in her time of need?
"You can't love him," Glenn whispered to himself, tears forming in his eyes. "I still love you too much to let you go."
