Glenn climbed into his car and sighed. The past week had been a whirlwind, with Alice’s passing and his fight with Kara. The pain of his mum’s death and Kara staying with Sharon combined together was wrecking him emotionally, and he needed a little break from everything.

His phone beeped and he glanced down at it, hoping it would be Kara. Instead, he saw a message from Matthew. “Hi Sir. I know you and Ma’am Kara had a fight recently, and I hope you’re doing fine. I’m really sorry to hear about your mum, but I’m sure she wouldn’t want you moping around about Kara. Remember what I told you the previous time? There’s no harm in trying. Stay strong Sir,” it read.

Glenn smiled to himself and started the car. He had always thought of Matthew as someone who was caught up in his own world, but it looked like he was wrong. Glenn looked at his watch and realized he had two hours to kill before the scattering of ashes and decided to head home to get a little sleep.

He spent the entire trip home thinking of what to say to Kara, his mind abuzz. As he pulled up to his house, he noticed that the door was slightly ajar and frowned. “I swore I closed and locked the door this morning,” he muttered to himself as he hurriedly got out of the car.

He pushed on the door and it swung open. He shut it firmly behind him and walked up to the house, on high alert. As he stepped into the living room, he noticed that it was a little neater than he had remembered. A thief who cleaned up?

As he made his way up the stairs, he heard a noise coming from his bedroom and quickened his footsteps. He saw a shadow moving about in his room and crept closer to his room. As he stood outside the door, he caught a whiff of perfume that made his heart clench.

“Kara?” he asked, pushing open the door fully. She jumped up at his voice, startled. “I didn’t hear you come up to the house,” she said, dumping a pile of dirty clothes in his laundry basket. “How did you know it was me?”

“I could smell your perfume outside the room,” Glenn admitted as he sank down on the bed. “It’s Wonderstruck right?” Kara nodded and continued to clean up his room as he watched her silently.

“Why are you here?” Glenn asked after a while. “It can’t be solely because my house is messy.” Kara stopped what she was doing and turned to him with a small smile and said, “I knew you couldn’t survive without Alice looking after you, so I did a little grocery shopping to stock your fridge and cleaned up the house.”

“I’m touched Kara,” Glenn said a little too formerly, causing Kara to tighten her eyes. “Kara, can we talk?” he asked quietly, fidgeting with his hands.

“Of course, I’ve been waiting for you to ask me,” Kara said softly as she sat down next to him.  As he looked at her, the entire speech he had planned in his head flew out the window.

“I’m really sorry for all the things I said-” Glenn said, but Kara held up her hand. “I don’t want an explanation Glenn,” she said gently. “I want a solution. We fight a lot, and although it may be over small things, I don’t want us to go on like this. I don’t care if other couples fight often. I don’t want to be part of the crowd. I want our love to be real.”

Glenn looked her in the eye, at a loss for words. “Your therapy sessions really changed you,” he murmured. “You’re more independent.” Kara gave him a small smile before saying serious, “I want a serious answer Glenn. We need to work things out together.”

Glenn nodded and said, “Well, maybe we should spend more time together just talking. Not about solving the case or who we need to send undercover. We talk a lot, but it’s always work related. Maybe we need to spend more time just talking about how we feel or anything really.”

Kara nodded and said, “I agree. Maybe it’s because of the nature of our jobs but we rarely talk about personal things. I would bore you out of your mind with all my fangirl talk though.” Glenn chuckled and said, “That’s another thing we should work on. Instead of picking at each other’s habits, we should learn to appreciate them and somehow come to love them.”

Kara laughed and said, “I’d like to see you listen to me go on and on about Peeta and Sheldon.” Glenn rolled his eyes and said, “Okay, back to business. Anything else we need to discuss?” Kara tapped her foot as she looked at the ceiling thoughtfully before shaking her head and saying, “I guess that’s about it. What we really lack is probably a personal touch.”

“I guess there are some things true love can’t make up for,” Glenn said as he leaned over to kiss Kara. Kara pulled away and said, “Hold up. True love?” “Yeah, true love. I really love you Kara,” Glenn said, reaching for her hand. “I don’t think I’ve ever loved anyone so much.”

“Not even Marianne?” Kara asked, lacing her fingers with his. Glenn shook his head and said, “I don’t think so. Being with you brings happy to a completely new level.”

Kara looked at him in false shock and said dramatically, “Did Glenn Chua just say he’s happy?” Glenn punched her arm playfully and said, “Don’t make me take it back Kara Yeo.” She smirked at him and said, “You’re cranky, but you’re my uptight cranky pants man.”

Glenn groaned and said, “You really need to stop with that nickname Kara. It’s horrifying and makes me cry.” Kara chuckled gleefully and said, “Cry? Are you sad Glenn? One cries because one is sad and for example, I cry because others are stupid and that makes me sad. I thought you said you were happy!”

Glenn took a deep breath and said, “Your fangirling will take a while for me to get used to, especially all these weird Sheldon quotes.” Kara grinned at him cheekily and said, “You know me so well. Come on, we better leave if we’re going to make it on time to catch the boat to scatter Alice’s ashes.”

Glenn got up and Kara followed suit. “I’m really glad you’re going to be there with me,” Glenn said seriously as they locked the door behind them. Kara smiled at him and said, “I’ve lost both parents so I know what it feels like, and having a loved one by your side makes everything better. Look, you seem happier already.”

Glenn bent down and kissed the top of her head saying, “Of course I feel and seem happier. I have you now.” As Glenn walked to the driver’s side, Kara shook her head and whispered to herself, “What did I do to deserve such love?”
