“A double date?” Glenn asked hesitantly as he climbed into Kara’s car. Kara got into the driver’s seat and closed the door saying, “It’ll be fine. Besides, it’s only Sharon and Joyce. You’ve met them before so it shouldn’t be that bad.”

Glenn felt himself relax at Kara’s reassuring smile and he smiled back at her. “Alright then,” he said as he buckled up. Kara started the car and pulled out of the car park, heading up the highway. There was a short stretch of awkward silence before Glenn cleared his throat.

“So… Where are we going for dinner?” Glenn asked, looking over at Kara. “Chili’s,” Kara replied, keeping her eyes on the road. “Sharon already got a table for us.” Glenn kept looking over at Kara, expecting her to carry on with the conversation.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Kara asked after a while, having tuned her head to look at Glenn a couple of times. “Oh it’s nothing. Just that you know, people normally have conversations in the car and not just sit in awkward silence,” Glenn said with a slight shrug.

Kara blushed and said softly, “Sorry, I’m used to just sitting in silence in the car.” “I know,” Glenn said. “It’s time to change alright? So, tell me about your day.” Kara looked over at him and laughed.

“You just spent the last 9 hours with me in the office and you ask me how my day is?” Kara said in amusement. Glenn paused for a while before chuckling and saying, “My bad. It’s just one of those typical questions people use during small talk.”

“We could talk about the case if you wanted,” Kara suggested as she came to a stop at a red light. Glenn sighed and raked his fingers through his hair. “There’s pretty much nothing to talk about is there?” Glenn said dejectedly. “Three months in and we haven’t gotten anywhere.”

“It’s only a matter of time before we find something useful,” Kara said reassuringly. “Besides, Dynesh and Matthew are ready to go undercover this week. We should find something useful then.” Glenn nodded in agreement as Kara turned into the car park and pulled into a lot.

Both of them climbed out of the car and headed to the lift lobby together, awkwardly holding hands. “I can see how you’ve never really been in a loving relationship,” Glenn murmured as the lift door opened. Kara scowled at him and said, “Well now you know.”

Glenn looked down at their hands and lifted it up to his chest. He laced his fingers with hers and said, “There, much better.” Kara smiled warmly at him but dropped her gaze when the lift doors opened and a lady stepped in, eyeing them warily. Glenn chuckled to himself and looked up at the ceiling, a goofy grin plastered on his face.

As they walked up to Chili’s, they saw Sharon standing outside, barking into her phone. “For the last time Dave, we need to close the damned case already. Why are we suddenly changing the charges?” Sharon shouted into her phone, giving Glenn and Kara a small wave as they walked up to her.

“Hey guys, glad you finally arrived. I’m starving,” Sharon said as she hugged the both of them before dragging them to their table. “Hey you guys finally made it!” Joyce said excitedly when she saw them walking towards the booth. “We’re starving and Sharon’s whiny on an empty stomach.”

Sharon rolled her eyes and said, “I am not whiny on an empty stomach, just more grumpy than usual.” Turning to Kara and Glenn she said, “By the way, I already ordered.” Glenn looked at Sharon and Joyce with an amused look on his face. “Let’s hope the food comes soon then,” he whispered in Kara’s ear, eliciting a laugh from her.

Suddenly, Shanise came running out of nowhere and jumped onto Kara’s lap. “Aunty Kara!” she squealed, engulfing Kara in a bear hug. “Hey Shanise! I haven’t seen you in ages,” Kara said as she ruffled the little girl’s hair.
