“I forgot how much I hate moving,” Glenn grumbled to himself as he loaded yet another box onto the table. It had taken him about an hour to move all his stuff up from his old office to his new one, and it was only then did he realize the amount of junk he had hoarded over the years.
He peered into one of the boxes and realized it was stuffed full of his old case files and began flipping through them. “Gosh how I wish I could dump all this stuff,” he said with a sigh as he spotted another box full of case files. He threw open one of the cupboard doors and began haphazardly dumping all the files in.
“You know, if you arrange them nicely it’ll look a whole lot neater and tidier,” a voice behind him said. He whirled round and smiled at the sight of Estella leaning against the door frame, two cups of Starbucks in hand. “You know me and tidiness,” Glenn said as he took one cup of coffee from her.
“Unfortunately I can’t stand messiness,” Estella said with a smile as she picked up one of the boxes. “You unpack everything else and I’ll help you sort and arrange your case files.” Glenn smiled gratefully at her and said, “You sure you don’t wanna do something else? I mean, it’s a Friday night.”
“I ordered pizza, it should be here soon,” Estella said, her voice muffled as she dug through a box of files. Glenn chuckled to himself and murmured, “This one’s definitely a keeper.”
The two worked in silence for a while, Glenn occasionally sneaking glances at Estella. Somehow the sight of her so focused on a task so dreary made her seem extremely cute. A knock on the door startled them and they looked up to see the pizza delivery man placing their box of pizza on the table.
“My wallet’s over there on the table,” Glenn said as he sifted through a box. “Just take three tens and keep the change.” He turned back to his work and was surprised when Estella said, “Wow, that was trusting of you. He could’ve taken all your money.”
“And if he did I could’ve probably tracked him down,” Glenn said with a wry smile. Estella chuckled and grabbed two slices of pizza, handing him one. He dug in hungrily and after chewing said, “I’ve never seen anyone so enthusiastic about filing.”
“What can I say? I’m a catch,” Estella said teasingly. Glenn smiled at her and said, “I have to agree there. There was an awkward silence as both sat there eating. Glenn scooted closer to her and laid his head down her shoulder, staring out the window at the street across.
“Eww, you dropped cheese on my head,” Glenn complained as he picked a piece of cheese off his head and chucked it at Estella. She laughed as he sat up, picking more pieces of cheese off his face and threw them at her.
The two of them soon found themselves faces barely inches apart, cheese all over the floor. Glenn looked into Estella’s hazel eyes and leaned in to kiss her just as she leaned in herself. When they pulled apart, Glenn couldn’t help but say with a smile, “You taste like pepperoni and cheese.”
“Speak for yourself,” Estella said with a laugh as she started picking up the cheese trail the two had left on the floor. After chucking them in the bin, she sat down next to Glenn and rested her head on his shoulder.
“Do you love me Glenn?” she asked quietly. “Not at all Estella, that’s why I just kissed you,” Glenn replied, his voice dripping with sarcasm. Estella laughed and hit his arm as she said gently, “Love you too Glenn.”
