Kara stared out the window of the plane and sighed. 14 more hours and she’d be with Glenn again.  As she waited for the other passengers to board the plane, she dug out her phone and called Glenn.

“One good thing about working as a DSP, they pay for your phone bills,” Kara said to herself as the phone rang. “Hey Kara,” Glenn said joyfully when he picked up the phone. “Hi Glenn! I’ve missed you so much,” Kara said as she settled herself down in the seat.

“Two weeks feels like forever doesn’t it?” Glenn said with a chuckle. Kara sighed and said, “I’ll be back soon dear, and we can head out for dinner after I land alright?” “You sure you won’t be too tired?” Glenn asked in concern. “I’ll be fine Glenn. Besides, I can sleep on the plane if I want to.”

Just then, someone sat down in the seat next to her. She glanced over at the person next to her and gasped. “What’s wrong?” Glenn asked. “It’s just, Alex is sitting next to me right now,” Kara whispered into the phone. “Are you sure it’s him?” Glenn asked. “Positive,” Kara said quietly. “Let’s just hope he won’t recognize me. After all, it’s been two years since I last saw him.”

“Hard not to recognize the most amazing person ever,” Glenn said, causing Kara to laugh to herself. “I gotta go now, I’ll see you later alright? Love you,” Kara said as she hung up and kept her phone in her bag, taking out a book.

“Hey Kara,” Alex said quietly as she flipped open her book. She glanced up at him and said hesitantly, “Hey Alex. I didn’t think you’d recognize me.” Alex laughed quietly and said, “It’s hard to forget someone you date for a few years.”

Kara closed her book and turned to him saying, “So, how have you been?” “I’ve been fine,” Alex said nonchalantly. “Just finished my degree so I’m heading back home.” “You did another degree?” Kara asked in disbelief. “You have like two already!”

“I have nothing to do anyways, so why not study? It’s more productive than lying at home trying to mend a broken heart,” Alex said with a shrug. Kara looked down and said quietly, “You’re still not over me?”

“You know that despite everything that happened, I still love you right?” Alex said with a small smile. Kara sighed and said, “You’ve told me that a million times Alex, but you just never proved it.” “And now you’ve found someone to replace me,” Alex said.

The both of them sat in silence for a while before Kara said, “I really love Glenn, and he makes me happy.” “And I didn’t?” Alex asked. “I did my best for you Kara.”

“Yeah, but it didn’t make me happy. It’s in the past Alex, let it go for God’s sakes,” Kara said heatedly, glaring at him. He stared back at her for a moment before leaning in and kissing her on the lips.

Kara pulled away after a few seconds and stared blankly at Alex. “I had to do it just one more time,” Alex whispered. “There’s an empty seat at the back. I think I’ll move there. Kara nodded and turned to stare out the window, her mind a mess.

She closed her eyes and sighed. Could she still have feelings for Alex? She’d dated Johnny after she broke up with Alex, so technically Glenn hadn’t replaced Alex, Johnny did. She could feel Alex staring at her.

Kara closed her eyes and tried to fall asleep, but her heart just wouldn’t slow down. It felt like forever before the plane landed and Glenn was waiting for her at the landing gate.

“ICA privileges,” he said with a wink as Kara ran up to him and hugged him. Glenn gave Alex a curt nod as he passed before turning back to Kara, who had tears in her eyes.

“What’s wrong Kara?” Glenn asked in concern as he ushered her over to a chair nearby. “After I hung up with you, Alex started talking to me and before I knew it he kissed me and-“Kara said before Glenn interrupted her.

“Calm down Kara, it’s alright,” Glenn said, rubbing her back soothingly. “You’re not mad that I kissed him?” Kara asked softly. Glenn shook his head and said, “It’s okay Kara. I understand you, and I’m fine with it. I know you love me, and you know I love me, and that’s all I need.” Kara looked up at him and smiled.

“Thanks,” Kara whispered as she pecked him on the cheek. “I spent the whole flight worrying about it. “You don’t need to worry about anything alright?” Glenn said reassuringly as they walked towards customs together. Kara smiled at him and said, “Okay. I love you Glenn.” Glenn smiled at her and said, “Not more than I do.”
