I've had bad days in my life. Dates that will forever remind me of something bad. But nothing compared to today. March 3rd definitely won the award for the worst day ever. I don't think any other day would ever compare to how badly this one was. But let me start from the beginning.
It was a regular day at school. I was on my way to second period when Kiera pulled me into a janitor's closet. Obviously I was shocked, considering Kiera and I don't even talk but she was alone which was a first; Vivian never leaves her side. She wore a pretty cute outfit, a pink blouse, showing too much cleavage, black leggings, and brown boots. Her blonde hair was in a loose ponytail.
"Kiera?" I ask, "Can I help you?"
"Look Evie, I need to talk to you. But I need to know that you'll listen."
"I will," I tell her.
"I'm serious," she says, "You're not going to like what you hear."
"Kiera, are you going to tell me or waste my time?" I ask, rather rudely but I'm really sick of being in the janitor's closet all the time.
She sighs, "Okay here goes. I know you're fond of the boys and they're probably your best friends but you have to know; they're not good people. I was in your shoes last year, when they first came here, they were my friends. I did everything with them. I had the time of my life. I went to Aspen, New York, etcetera. I actually liked them more than I like Vivian but I knew it was too good to last. I slept with Alec, and once I did, they completely stopped being my friend. They're guys, guys only want one thing and once they get it, they're done with you."
"Well maybe they changed, and how do I even know it's true?" I ask her. Not saying she's a liar but she loves creating rumors.
"Come on Evie, if you asked them about last year, you think they'd remember you? And as for the truth, go to library, look through yearbooks and newspapers, you'll see I was basically like you last year."
With that said, she left the closet, leaving me standing my own confusion. I was late to history so I skipped, and went to the library. I gathered all the newspapers from last year and yearbook. I took a seat in the back of the library and started going through it. I didn't even realize second period had ended and third was halfway done until I reached the last article.
Kiera was right; she was really good friends with them. I know it shouldn't affect how I think about them but if it was nothing then why didn't they tell me? Creating my own assumptions is really dangerous but what if I'm just a replacement for Kiera? I don't think I'm upset about the fact that they didn't tell me, more of the fact that I think I'm a replacement for someone.
But I didn't have to wonder for long. As soon as third period was done, I was out of the library and waiting in the spot for them. They were going to tell me everything. I was going to make sure of it.
"Hey Evie, didn't see you in third," Nolan tells me.
"Uh yeah, I skipped," I snap, taking them back.
"Whoa Evie, a side of bitchy on the menu today?" Alec jokes and I roll my eyes.
"We need to talk, in private," I tell them and they raise their eyebrows.
"Everything okay?" Beau asks me.
"I don't know yet," I admit and walk off. They all follow quickly, trying to get me to tell them now what's wrong so they don't have to walk; how they are in a gang is far past me. We walk outside to the garden of our school which is pretty secluded and no one ever really comes here. When we finally stop, that's when I ask them, "Why didn't you tell me about Kiera?"
