Delilah flipped through an old magazine as she waited for her name to be called. The waiting room was full of women who were pregnant. She swallowed hard and tried to concentrate on the article she was reading but her mind drifted back to the day she told Cole she was pregnant

She hadn't been feeling well. Her moods were off. She was always tired and she knew something was off. She happened to glance at the calendar and realized she was two weeks late. Her mind raced. They had only been married a little over a year. They weren't ready. Where they? Yea they wanted a family but they had agreed to wait until they were married two years before they started trying. They were always careful. She needed to take a test before she jumped to conclusions.

Delilah paced the bathroom. The pregnancy test sat on the counter. Her phone was counting down time until she could check it. "Baby?" She heard Cole call out.

"Bathroom." She yelled back.

She heard him come into their bedroom. "Today was awesome. We got a lot of tracks laid. Did you want to order in?" He asked pulling off his shoes.

The timer went off and she took a deep breath as she picked up the stick. "Pregnant" took her breath away. Tears filled her eyes. She knew in an instant she loved the baby growing inside her. They were ready. God had a plan for them and yea it was sooner than they planned but it wasn't up to them.

Her hands shook as she opened the bathroom door.

"Hey, did you hear me?" Cole asked looking up. He saw tears spilling down her face and something in her hand.

"What's wrong? Are you ok?"

"Cole..." She smiled through the tears. "Cole..." She handed him the test.

He took the stick from her and looked down. He slowly raised his eyes to look at her. "Does this mean...."

She nodded and covered her mouth. "I'm pregnant. We're pregnant. I'm gonna have a baby."

"What? How? I mean..."

"You know how babies are made, Cole. And I know we said 2 years but, Cole....I want this baby."

He looked down at the test and saw his life flash before his eyes. A little boy with his mama's smile. A little girl with his laugh.

He swung her up into his arms and kissed her face all over. "I love you so damn much... And I want this baby too... but I thought we were careful..."

"I know...." She shook her head. "Remember when I got strep? I was on antibiotics. They cancel out birth control...." She laughed. "We're gonna have a baby, Cole!"

He kissed her breathless before putting his hand on her stomach. "Wow. There's a little you and me in there."

"Yes."

"How are you feelin?"

"Aside from the nausea? Pretty good. I think we need to call Dr. Jameson in the morning. We need to make sure this is real."

"Let's celebrate...."

"Not yet. Let's wait until we know how far along. And I don't want to tell anyone yet."

"Deal." He kissed her again. "I love you." He bent and kissed her stomach. "Both of you."

"We love you too."

"You want to order dinner? We can sit up here and watch movies...."

"Cole, I'm pregnant not dyin..."

"I know I just thought we could have a lazy night in."

"Sounds like a plan."

"How about if I go to Skero's and get your favorite pasta? I'll even stop and get you those cookies from Gina's that you love so much."

"You'll be the best husband ever if you get me those cookies." She laughed.

"Done." He brushed a kiss across her forehead. "I'll be back in thirty minutes."

"Lila?" The nurses voice snapped her out of her daydream. "Dr. Jameson is ready for you."

She put the magazine down and picked up her purse. She went through the whole spill of being weighed, having her blood pressure checked and peeing in a cup. She sat down in her paper gown on the table to wait for the doctor. Her heart was racing. Something was wrong. She knew it deep down. She wished she had let Cole come with her but he was working. Yea the album was done but there was still a lot left to do before it dropped.

"Lila." Dr. Jameson stepped through the door and closed it behind her.

"Just tell me." Delilah said softly. "I know there is something wrong. You wouldn't have sent me for an CT scan before my appointment if there wasn't."

"You have a lot of scar tissue from the miscarriage...."

"What else?"

"Your blood work is troubling. You should have ovulated by now. How long has it been since your period?"

Delilah thought back. "Over a month."

"Just what I thought. Lila, I am going to give you my honest opinion. Getting pregnant again I don't think is going to be easy for you. "

"Are you saying I can't get pregnant again? Because with the baby we lost we weren't even trying...."

"No. That's not what I am saying. I'm saying that it might be a long road. A rough road...."

"Ok."

"You might need to see a fertility specialist. Someone who specializes in these type of cases. I can recommend someone right here in Nashville..."

"How hard would it be to get pregnant again?"

"Nearly impossible. Your body isn't ovulating like it should. The scar tissue is blocking your uterus....."

Delilah heard roaring in her ears and felt like she was in a dream. She didn't remember making it through the rest of the appointment. She didn't remember driving home. She felt like she was in a fog.
