The next three days where spend soaking up the warm sun on the beach, walks into the town and hotter nights wrapped up in his arms. She was sad they were leaving in two days. She wanted to stay. They were so in love. She never thought that a vacation would bring them even closer.
They walked along the beach hand in hand. "This day has been perfect, Cole." Delilah leaned against him.
"Not quite." He replied.
"Huh?"
Just then fireworks exploded in the sky catching her attention. "WOW." She smiled. "Cole, look."
She turned to see him down on one knee. She covered her mouth as tears filled her eyes. "I love you. You are the most amazing, frustrating, sweetest, funniest, most kind, giving person I have ever met, Delilah Marie Bryan. Loving you has been the easiest thing I have ever done. The way you make me wanna be a better man, a better son, a better friend, a better brother, it makes me weak in the knees. The past two and a half years have been the best of my life because you have made me happier than I ever thought was possible. You believe in me when I don't believe in myself. I love waking up with you and thank God for you every night. And if you'll let me, I promise to spend the rest of my life tryin to make you just as happy as you make me. Marry me. Make me the luckiest man in the world."
She swallowed hard and nodded. "Yes. Yes I'll marry you!" She was shaking as Cole slipped the ring onto her finger. She pulled him to his feet and threw herself in his arms kissing him hard.
"Now it's perfect." He whispered in her ear. He led her up the beach and standing on the deck to the hotel was Luke, Caroline, Cole's mama and daddy, her mama, her daddy, Michael, and Cole's band.
"Told you I had surprises." He grinned. "She said yes!" He yelled out.
Delilah laughed as her brother picked her up and spun her around. "You knew about this?"
"We all did. Cole and I took a trip down to see dad a couple of weeks ago. He wanted our permission to marry you." Luke grinned as he set her on her feet. "He wanted the people who love you the most to witness it."
She turned to look at Cole. In that moment she fell in love with him all over again. He had asked her brother and her father for her hand. He wanted the people that meant the most to them to be there when he asked.
They agreed to wait a few days before they announced it to the public. They wanted to enjoy the moment themselves.
Delilah came downstairs on Christmas Day to see Cole stretched out on the couch. "Good morning." He tugged her down beside him.
"Morning yourself." She smiled against his lips. "I want to tell everyone today."
"Are you serious? You wanna tell the press, the fans?"
"Yes. It's Christmas. Let's give them a gift."
"Done." He pulled out his phone and pulled her close. "Smile."
"Merry Christmas! Just hanging out on the couch with my fiancée. #putaringonit @delbryan."
Delilah held up her hand as Cole snapped the picture. "Does this ring make me look engaged? That's right! We're getting married! #heasked #isaidyes #cantwaittobehiswife.#futuremrsswindell @cswindell2."
Luke and Caroline came down and grinned. "Let me guess.... You decided to tell?" Caroline laughed.
"Yup. It's Christmas."
"My turn!" She squealed. She posted the picture of her and Delilah on the beach right after Cole proposed. "So blessed to have been here to see him get down on one knee! You're gonna make a gorgeous bride, Lils! We love you and Cole so much! Congrats!!! @lukebryan @cswindell2 @delbryan."
The wedding plans quickly got underway. Cole wanted her to have the wedding of her dreams and they set the date for March 24th, 2012. She wanted a spring wedding. Cole wanted to get married on the beach or in Nashville but Delilah knew in her heart that the only place she could get married was in Atlanta. Georgia was home. They had both been born and raised in Georgia. It was their roots. Their blood. It was only right to get married there.
Life got more hectic with the store, Cole writing and touring, planning a wedding and they were talking about buying land to build a house on. Luke wanted them to buy the land down the road from him and Caroline. Delilah didn't know if she wanted to wait that long. She wanted a move in ready house.
September 2011
Delilah was busy at the store and Cole was on the road. It had been weeks since she had seen him. Her phone went off signaling a text message from Cole. "Be home tonight. Can't wait to see u."
"YAY! What time are you coming in?"
"Around seven but I have to go to the studio first. I'll be home around eight. Late dinner?"
"Works for me. I'll pick us up something?"
"Whatever u want. I have some phone calls I have to make tonight too...."
"So you're comin home to work?"
"Sorry, baby....I do miss u but u know this is how it is right now."
"I know....I'll see you at home."
"Love u."
"Love you too."
She picked up Chinese food and they had dinner at the counter. He pecked her mouth and then disappeared into his office to make his calls. She cleaned up the kitchen and went upstairs to take her bath. While she was up to her neck in bubbles a thought came across her mind. She grinned and finished her bath.
Delilah eyed her reflection in the mirror. She bit her lip. She hadn't worn anything like this before. She wasn't sure why she let Caroline talk her into buying it. The black silk negligée fell to her mid-thigh. She piled her hair in a messy bun and applied light make up. She slicked on clear lip gloss and headed downstairs. Cole was in his office working. She knew he was busy but it didn't stop the ache she felt for his touch.
She paused at the door. He was on the phone with his back to her. She tapped on the door lightly. He turned his head slightly and motioned for her to come in. She stood in the door way waiting for him to turn around completely.
Cole was half listening to Michael talk. It was nearly midnight and all he wanted was a shower and his bed. He had been on the road for three weeks. He had missed Delilah and wanted time with her. He heard her tap and motion for her to come in.
Delilah bit her lip again as Cole turned the chair. His eyebrows went up as his eyes traveled down her body.
Cole's mouth went dry at the sight of his fiancée in nothing but a black silk nighty. He felt the familiar pull in his belly when his eyes traveled down her bare tan legs to her hot pink painted toes. He made eye contact with her as she bit her lip. God she was beautiful and all his. The diamond on her left hand sparkled in the light. He wanted her badly. She was sexy as hell and it only made it sexier that she didn't look sure if what she was wearing was ok.
She crossed the room and straddled his lap. Her lips found the pulse at the base of his neck and his eyes closed. Soon her lips found his and he dropped the handset. He could hear Michael but his hands wrapped around her pulling her closer, deepening the kiss.
She pulled back and looked at him with clouded eyes. He licked his lips and picked the phone back up as Delilah climbed off his lap. He watched her walk to the door of the office and she crooked her finger at him.
"Hey Michael, I hear you but listen I gotta go....it's late and I..."
Cole listened for a few more seconds. "No, listen I'll talk to you about it tomorrow. I really need to go." He hung up and hit the lights on the office wall as he ran up the stairs. He found Delilah coming out of their bathroom. He pulled her into his arms and buried his mouth against hers.
He lifted her in his arms and carried her over to their bed. His hands slid under the nighty to touch her skin. She sighed against him. "I've missed you."
"Baby you have no idea how much I've missed you." He replied.
