Delilah opened her eyes and blinked against the bright sunlight streaming in from the window. She groaned and threw her hand over her eyes. "Hey now. Is that anyway too great a beautiful Sunday morning?" She heard a voice day from the doorway. She opened her eyes and looked over to see Cole dressed and holding a cup of coffee in his hand. "That better be for me." She mumbled sitting up in the bed. The flight from Paris had them landing in Nashville at nearly midnight and well they hadn't exactly gone straight to bed.
"It is." He smiled and crossed the room to hand it to her. "Good morning, Mrs. Swindell." He kissed her mouth softly. She smiled against his lips. "Say it again."
"Mrs. Swindell, you better get a move on or we're gonna be late for church." He handed her the cup.
Her wedding rings clinked against the mug as she took a sip. "It's your fault. We just came back from our honeymoon and you kept me up all night."
"Hey, I didn't hear you complaining...." Cole teased as she threw the covers back. "In fact I think you saw heaven from the 'oh God' you said a few times."
She turned blood red and threw a pillow at him. "Hush!"
"Are you blushin, my beautiful wife?" Cole laughed.
"No!" She put the coffee cup down on the counter and turned on the shower.
"Yes you are." He stood in the doorway as she stepped into the shower. "What are you wearin to church?"
"Can you get the blue sundress out and the tan wedges?" She said over the spray.
"Yes." He disappeared into their closet. He pulled the spaghetti strapped sundress from the hanger and found the shoes she wanted. He put them on the bed and pulled out his phone.
He sent a text to his brother in law. "Hey. We'll be at church. Li's in the shower now."
A few seconds later his phone went off. "I figured ya'll would skip this one bein newlyweds and all..."
"Na...we did that last night. HAHA"
"Eww... she's still my sister, bro."
"Just teasin. See ya'll in a bit."
"K. Lunch at the café?"
Cole heard the shower turn off and saw Lila wrap a towel around her. "Hey baby, Luke wants to know if we want to have lunch with them after church."
"Sure. We need to give them their gifts from Hawaii anyway." She turned on the hair dryer.
"Sounds good."
"K."
He waited for Delilah to finish doing her hair. She had pulled it up into a high ponytail which made her look about seventeen. He grinned. "I'm a sucker when you wear your hair like that."
"I know...." She blew him a kiss as she put on her makeup.
"What do you want?" He crossed his arms.
"Well..." She finished applying the mascara and turned to him. She played with the buttons on his shirt. "I do recall you saying we could get a dog when we got back...."
Cole shook his head. "You really want a dog? What about when we go on tour?"
"We can get a small one. One that can go with us..." She pouted. "Please?"
Cole felt his resolve weakening. "Fine. I'll think about us getting a dog but we have to get you a new car first. Yours is on its last leg."
"K." She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him loudly. "You're the best husband I'll ever have!"
"I better be the only husband you'll ever have." He laughed.
"You will be." She grinned and pulled her dress on. She sat down on the bed to put on her shoes. "Can you hand me my phone?"
He took the phone off the charger and handed it to her. "Ready?"
"Yes." She took his hand and let him led her down the stairs.
After church they met Luke, Caroline and the boys at the local café. Bo launched himself at her the moment they sat down. Delilah cuddled him close. "Did you miss me?"
"Yes. Did you bring me a present?"
"Thomas Boyer Bryan!" Caroline shot him a look.
"It's fine." Delilah laughed. "And actually yes I did. Uncle Cole will get them out of the truck after lunch." She kissed his cheek.
"Ok." Bo smiled.
"How was the honeymoon?" Caroline asked as she sipped her tea.
"Wonderful. It was so beautiful, Car... I hated leavin..."
"Well maybe if you're a good girl I'll take you back." Cole teased.
"Oh God... please don't spoil her any more than she already is." Luke rolled his eyes.
"Hush." Delilah threw her napkin at him. "I'm not that spoiled...."
"Oh yes you are." Cole laughed.
"How do you figure?" She looked at her husband.
"You always get your way." Luke supplied.
"No I don't."
"Yes you do." Luke argued.
"When have I gotten my way?"
"Uh this mornin..." Cole smiled.
"Should we be talkin about this in front of the boys?" Caroline laughed.
"She talked me into getting her a dog." Cole shook his head.
"A dog?" Caroline smiled.
"Yes. When we were in Tuscany Cole said that since we're not havin babies anytime soon that we should get a dog. I just reminded him of that this morning." Delilah stuck her tongue out at him.
"And why are you waitin on babies?" Luke asked.
"Because he's workin so much and ya'll are tourin. We decided to wait." Delilah sipped her tea.
"When?" Luke asked again.
"In another year or two. Don't worry, Uncle Luke. You'll get a nephew or niece soon enough." Delilah laughed.
"I better." He grinned.
Cole stretched his arm across the back of her seat and played with the ends of her hair. "Speakin of the tour. We only have another week off. I have to go get Lila a new car this week. She's not comin on the tour until May."
"Yea I'm stayin here. Car and the boys aren't comin out till summer so I'll hang with them until then."
"New car huh? What kind?"
"I want another SUV." She shrugged. "But whatever Cole gets is fine. It's his money."
"Hey. It's our money remember?" He looked at her.
"I keep forgetting." She said softly. He reached over and took her hand. He kissed her fingers. "Love you."
"Love you too."
Caroline smiled. "Ya'll are such newlyweds. It's so cute."
Delilah smiled back at her sister in law. "So I was thinkin that maybe we could have a girl's day soon?"
"Sure. Just tell me when. The boys are in school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so I'm free."
"Ok."
After lunch Cole got the boys their gifts from the truck. They had gotten them a tee shirt each and a shell from the beach. They brought Luke a beer mug and Caroline a beautiful picture frame. They hugged them goodbye and headed for home. Cole was headed back out on the road in a few days.
She wanted to get in as much time with him as she could before he left. It was gonna be different this time. This time when he left he would be her husband.
She didn't know if she could make it through without crying....
