Delilah was silent as Cole pulled into the driveway. He killed the engine before turning to her. "Are you goin to talk to me or just give me the silent treatment all night?"
"What do you want me to say, Cole?" She replied opening her door.
She was slipped her heels off and headed for the stairs. He sighed. It was going to be a long night. He rolled his neck and went upstairs after his fiancée.
He unbuttoned his shirt and tossed it in the laundry basket beside the dresser. She walked out of the closet in black silk pajama pants with a silk zebra print kami. He just raised his eyebrows and removed his boots. "I want you to talk to me."
"There's nothing to say." She put her dress in the dry cleaning basket.
"Damn it, Lila!" He shook his head and went into the bathroom to brush his teeth.
"What, Cole? You were the one..."
"Stop, Lils. Just stop." He spit in the sink. "What did you want me to do? Tell her no?"
"YES!" She crossed her arms and stared at him.
"It's not that simple, Lila. Besides, what's the big deal?"
"Seriously?"
"Yes." Cole threw his hands up.
"She wants you."
"For good grief, Delilah. She was being friendly
"She was flirting. And you were flirting back."
"Come on, Lila... I was being nice."
"I'm telling you she wants you."
"You're imagining things."
"You just don't want to admit it."
"I can't talk to you when you're like this."
"Then sleep in your man cave." She threw his pillow and a blanket at him.
"Are you serious?" His mouth fell open.
"YES!"
She laid awake and stared at the ceiling. For the first time since they got engaged, she had kicked him out of their bed.
She rolled onto her side. She missed Cole's warmth. The feel of him beside her. The way he'd wrap his arm around her waist and pull her back against him.
She sighed and rolled back over. She knew she wasn't going to get much sleep.
The next morning she went down and started the coffee. Cole padded in a few minutes later looking like she felt.
She knew he hadn't slept either. "Hey."
"Hi." Cole rounded the counter and poured a cup of coffee.
He took a sip and watched her. She made his heart race just looking at her. She was still in her pajamas. Her feet were bare and her toes hot pink. Her long dark hair in a messy bun. Make up free and she was breathtaking.
"I'm sorry." He said.
"Me too." She said softly.
He put his cup down and crossed to where she was standing. He wrapped his arms around her. "I don't wanna fight like that ever again."
"Me either." She looked up at him. "I missed you last night."
"Baby, you have no idea. That couch is comfortable but not when you're sleeping on it." He kissed her mouth. She leaned her head against his chest. "She just makes me nervous, Cole... the way she looks at you...."
