Chapter 16

*3 years later*

Niall's POV

"Dada where we go?"

"Remember I told you Tommy. We're going on a little trip to the lake with your uncles". I zipped up his jacket and he ran off to play.

"Dada today I made some art!" Max showed me his piece of art with Daniel, Tom, Max and I. I smiled widely.

"Wow! That's awesome Max! Do you think I can put it up on the wall?"

"Yeah! I made it for you!" I took the paper from him and placed it on the bench.

"Come on boys! Let's get in the car!" Max held Tom's hand as we walked out the house and I locked up. "Ready to go Daniel?" He kissed Kelly goodbye and hugged her. They've been going out for two years now and he's been so happy with her. I love to see my kids so happy it just makes my heart melt. I buckled Tom in his car seat and Max got in the car, doing up his seatbelt. Daniel got in the front seat and I got in the drivers seat, beginning to drive. It's been three years since Louis left. Daniel is now 18 and almost finished school. Max is now 8 and Tom is 5. Tom is starting school next year and I really can't believe it. They're growing up so fast and I really need them to stop. After a year of reading and reading Louis' note, I found a hidden message.

*2 years ago*

I just stared at the crumbled piece of paper, reading over the words again and again. It's hard to let go. I frowned as I noticed the different capital letters that were scattered and grabbed a pen and paper.

I just stared at the words that I didn't see for an entire year and it all made sense. Louis left to protect us. He spelt blackmailing wrong but I'm sure he just couldn't fit a k in the sequence of sentences. Maybe. How did I not see this before? It was right in front of me. I was so angry at him and he was only trying to protect us.

*present*

By then I had finally moved on. I accepted the fact that he had gone and he wasn't coming back. Tom doesn't remember him. Max did question if there was someone else from time to time but Daniel remembers all of it. I remembered maybe two months after he left us. My memory just suddenly came flooding back. Tom was over the moon when I had told him. He hugged me tightly and didn't want to let go. He did eventually of course when I told him I'd give him some chocolate. God I love my boys. Daniel was happy. Max was very happy. Daniel and Max began to play football. Daniel has won the final actually. Last year. I was so proud of him. He won every game.

"Dad? We're here". I noticed I had parked the car and the lads were standing in front of me.

"Alright let's get out the car then". Tom whined as he tried to follow the boys and I chuckled, getting out of the car and walking to his side. "Hold on Tommy". I unbuckled his seat belt and helped him out the car, letting him run to Liam, Harry and Zayn. "Where's Darcy, Blake and Lily?"

"Gone with Daniel and Max to the playground". I nodded and got our bags from the car, the lads helping while we walked to the cabin.

"Dada I go play?"

"Okay Tommy. Go and find Daniel and Max okay? And don't talk to strangers!" He nodded and ran off. "I better make sure he finds the boys, I'll be back". I walked towards the play ground and searched for my little boy but couldn't see him. I began to panic.

"Dad? What's wrong?" Daniel and Max came running towards me.

"Have you seen Tommy?" They shook their head.

"There!" Max pointed to a man kneeling next to Tom and I began to run.

"Tommy!"

"Dada!" He ran towards me and I took him in my arms, sitting him on my hip. "I not find Daniel or Max I scared dada". I looked up and stared wide eyed at the figure in front of me. Blue eyes, brown feathery hair, beautiful features. "This man help Tommy dada". I nodded and stared at Louis.

"Dad why don't we go back to the cabin?"

"Wha- oh yeah. You go with the boys. I'll be there soon". I let Tom down and watched them walk away.

"So, ah, how have you been?" He scratched the back of his neck.

"Good". I nodded. "You?"

"Good. Tom doesn't remember me".

"He was 2 when you left. Of course he doesn't". We stood in silence. "You hurt me Lou".

"I know".

"You just left".

"I know. I'm so sorry Niall. I'm so so sorry. I didn't have a choice! Tyler he-"

"I know".

"You wha-"

"I saw what you wrote in the letter. I know what he did".

"Oh". I nodded. "I've missed you". I looked into Louis' teary eyes and began to tear up.

"Do you want to come to the cabin?"

"That would be great". I smiled and began to walk towards the cabin where I was afraid how everyone would react to seeing Louis. "How have the boys been?"

"Good. Daniel and Max started to play football".

"Bet they're talented just like their dad". I shoved him playfully and he chuckled. We walked in the door and I closed it.

"Dada why did you bring that man home?" I saw Louis' face fall as Max looked at him.

"He's my friend Max".

"But you just met dada?" I heard gasps and the sound of crashing plates. I looked up to see anger cross over Harry's face. Not good.
