Chapter 42, Short or long

 Kara's POV

I tie my blonde hair up into a ponytail, leaving a few strands of my hair to hand down. I slip on my white tank top that says 'Young and Reckless', that ends just above my denim shorts. Then I tie off my converse on my feet. I grab my purse and then head downstairs to meet up with Chantal and her friends. Today we are going bridesmaid dress shopping! Oh goody, NOT!

"Kara come on! You're going to ride with me and Merissa." Chantal says walking towards her black car in the driveway. 

Merissa is just a year or two older than me. She is Chantal's niece. Merissa has short black hair with a few highlights in. She's a very tall person standing at six foot- one inches. She plays basketball at Oregon State University. Merissa is wearing a denim skirt, with a crop top and flip flops. Her make up is done lightly to high light her best features on her face, her green eyes. 

We all climb into the car and Chantal takes off towards the high way to go to the bridesmaid dress shop. In a half hour of an awkward car ride, we finally make it to the shop. We walk up and join the rest of the other two bridesmaids in the shop. 

Chantal and her two other friends start to go through dresses on the racks. Merissa joins her to looking at some of the most frilliest and weird looking dresses ever. 

"Come on Kara, help!" Chantal says. 

I trudge over to the racks and start going through them. Looking for nothing in particular. Till Chantal's friend, Dani, pulls out this slim fit purple dress that comes down to the knees.

"That's cute!" Renee says, Chantal's other friend.

"Oh yeah, that looks so good." Dani says.

"That's a maybe." Chantal says, looking back at the racks for more dresses. 

I pull out a few dresses here and there, but nobody seemed to like them at all. Even Merissa hated the short blue dress I picked out. I thought it was cute, but oh well. After pulling out dresses, we all went to try some on. Dani came out in a light blue, full length strapless dress. Rene came out in a one strap off the shoulder, dark blue, knee length dress. Then Merissa came out in a short knee length dress with two straps that come up together behind the neck and tie off. It has a belt that matches the navy blue dress, wrapping around the waist. Lastly I came out in a puffy short strapless dress with a small bow around.

"So what do you girls think? I really like Dani's and Merissa's." Chantal says looking at all of us.

"Yeah, Kara's dress is a little to poofy." Merissa sneers. 

"Yeah it is. Something a little more slimming is better." Rene says. 

"Agreed. Merissa or my dress is more like that." Dani says. 

"Ok! I choose Merissa dress!" Chantal says. 

"Sweet, I know we all will look good in this in the wedding." All the girls cheer. 

"Okay, now we just need to order them and then we are all good." Chantal says heading towards the cashier. 

All four of us head back into our dressing rooms to change back into our clothes. One by one, we all met up with Chantal at the cashier desk, ordering the dresses. I come out, and it appears that I am the last one to come out. 

"There you go ma'am. See you in two weeks for try ons." The cashier says. 

"Thank you. Come on girls." Chantal says walking out of the store. 

"Thank you girls so much for coming with me to figure out dresses. I had such a good time." Chantal says. 

"No problem. We enjoyed it, that we can't wait for the wedding now." Rene says with a smile. 

"Me either. It's going to be a perfect." Merissa cheers.

"Yup." I mutter. 

"Alright. Merissa's car is at my house, so I'll see you girls later!" Chantal says getting into the car. 

Chantal climbs into the drivers seat, while Dani and Rene walk off towards their cars. I start to walk towards the front seat of the car, till I get slammed into the car. I look behind me to Merissa smirking down at me. 

"What was that for?" I demand.

"Huh. I deserve front, not you!" She sneers and then pushes me back into the car before climbing into the front seat. 

I push myself off the car and climb into the backseat. Chantal starts the car and drives off down the road back to our house. The whole time, I just plugged in my headphones and listened to my music, so I didn't have to hear Chantal and Merissa talk about the dresses and how she picked out the best than anybody else.  

"I had a wonderful time today. Thanks for a good day." Merissa says walking towards her car. 

"Thank you so much. See you soon!" Chantal says walking into the house. 

"Will do! Bye you guys!" She says one more time and then drives off down the road. 

I trudge myself into the house, where three boys are playing xbox and one is raiding the kitchen for food. I take a seat on the single chair near the couch and watch the boys muttering incoherent words at each other. 

"Hey Kara, how was dress shopping?" Asher asks walking from the kitchen with a sandwich, chips, strawberries, and two Twinkies in his hands. 

"It was alright. Just glad to be home." I tell him. 

"That's good. Being around Merissa can really dampen someones day." Ash says taking a bit of his sandwich. 

"She's got some attitude." I whisper.

"Forget about her and play some games with us!" Landon cuts in throwing a controller at me.

A huge smile crawls on my face, and I grab the controller ready to kick some boy butt!!
