Chapter 41, Looking Out

Kara's POV

It's Sunday afternoon here, and I'm watching tv with my step brother, Asher, and my brother Landon. Colton left earlier to go hang out with some friends. Sage is upstairs in his room doing god knows what.

"Hey kids, where is Sage and Colton?" Dad asks us.

"Sage is upstairs and Colton is at a friends house." Landon answers.

"Okay, turn the tv off we are going to have a family meeting. Sage!!" Chantal yells up the stairs. Soon enough, the troubled boy descends down the stairs and takes a seat on one of the chairs in the living room.

"So we need to talk to you guys about a few things. Boys, your Uncle Nick is coming into town and will have dinner with us this Thursday. So I want all of you guys to be nice when he gets here." Chantal says.

I look over at Asher to see his eyes looking down at the ground. I turn my head to look at Sage, but he's just looks pissed off about this.

"Anything else?" Landon asks.

"Nope that's it." Our dad says.

"Great." We all mutter sarcastically.

"Okay, go back to what you guys where doing." They say and then walk off.

Thursday evening comes around, and we all are upstairs in our rooms getting ready for dinner with the Chantal's brother-in-law. I slip on a light black dress with a denim jacket and flats. I curl my hair up, and place a light amount of make up over my eyes. I wait patiently downstairs for the rest of my brothers.

"Hey sweetie, all ready?" My dad says.

"Yep I am. Where are we going?"

"Going to meet him at spaghetti factory." He says.

"Okkie dokkie." I say to him.

Soon enough, the boys come downstairs in nice shirts and pants. Then we all climb into the car and drive off towards the restaurant. We all get out and walk into the place. A small woman greets us and escorts us to the table, where a tall man with brown hair sits. This must be their Uncle Nick.

"Chantal! You look so beautiful." The man stands up and gives her a hug.

"You look handsome Nick. It's been so long." Chantal says.

"It has, these handsome devils must be the twins." Nick says. He walks over and gives the twins a quick guy hug. But both of them just don't look like they even want to be here.

"And who might these four people be?"

"Nick this is my fiance, Aaron. This is his son, Landon, his other son, Colton, and his daughter, Kara." Chantal introduces us to Nick.

"Nice to meet you." My brothers and I tell him. He reaches his hand out, shaking the boys hands firmly. Then turns and gives me a tight hug. 

We take a seat at the table and look for food on the menu. Dad and Chantal take the table seats on the end. Next to Chantal on her left is Sage, then Nick next to him. I sit down next to Nick, with Colton on my left. Next to him is Asher than Landon. A black hair chunky woman shows up next to our table with a notepad in hand. 

"Hi everyone, My name is Rhae and I will be your server today. Anything I can get you to drink?" The tall woman says. 

"I'll have a coke." Landon says to her. 

"A coke as well for me." Asher says.

"I'll have a water." Sage says. 

"Dr. Pepper for me." I say.
