Julianne's POV -
The lunch was going to be interesting to make because we both want to make different things. He wanted to make lasagna while i wanted to make simple penne pasta with grilled vegetables.
He pouted, "I wanted to make lasagna with you!"
I sigh, "But pasta will be easier to make."
He tried giving me the puppy dog face, and boy I tell, he was so cute, I almost gave into him right then and there. Key word on 'Almost.' I tried to cover up the effect that face had on me before he suspects anything.
Before I say anything further, he agreed with me with a pout, "Ohh, alright, only because you said pasta was easier."
I smiled at him and started to get the pasta out from the pantry. I got out the shells pasta and took it to the countertop. I got out the pot from one of the cabinets and gave it to him, "Here, take this, and fill it with ¾ water, and put some salt in it. Then put it on the stove at medium heat."
He took the pot from my hands and followed the rest of the instructions that i gave him. I got out the cutting board and placed it on the countertop. I got out red and green bell peppers, onions, and carrots. I washed the red, green bell peppers. I got out a saute pan and placed it on the stove over high-medium heat. I put some oil over the pan to let it simmer.
I check on the water and tell Jayden, "You can put the pasta in the water and let it sit for 8-10 minutes but stir the pasta every 2 or so minutes, so they don't stick to the bottom."
"Got it!," he winked at me and got to work.
I cut the bell peppers into pieces and put them in the pan. As they sizzle, I got started on the onion. I peeled the onion and washed it before cutting it into pieces. While I cutting the onions, Jayden decided to turn over the bell peppers, so they don't burn.
By the time I finish cutting the onions, Jayden drains the pasta in the sink, then he put the pasta back into the pot and adds some butter to it. After, he caps the pot with a lid, so the pasta doesn't dry while the rest is going on.
After the bell peppers were sauteed, i added the cut onions into the pan. Jayden turns them, while I start to peel the carrots. While we do this, we make small talk but nothing interesting. Once the onions are sauteed, I add the carrots, so they can cook. Once those are done, I asked Jayden to bring the pasta bowl, so I can add all the sauteed vegetables to it.
I also add a little bit of salt, pepper, and chile flakes for flavor. I take the pasta sauce from the fridge and pour it into a bowl to heat it. Whoever wants the sauce can add it from the separate bowl to the pasta.
I put aside the plates, glasses and cutlery in a corner of the table. While carry out the dishes to the middle of the table, Jayden sets up the cutlery for each person. As soon as we finish, we take opposite seats on the dining table and talk.
I started, "So... what do you want to talk about?"
He looked straight at me and said, "I don't know you tell me."
I started to think which led a silence, but not an awkward one. It was a comfortable one. Before I could ask him a question, the front door opened with my parents. They walked in from the living room to the dining room while my mom discarded her purse in the living room.
I got up from chair and announced, "Well, the lunch is ready whenever you guys want to start eating."
My dad replied, "We can start. I'm a bit hungry myself."
We all washed our hands before we sat down. Everyone started serving themselves, so none of us were left out. My dad said, "Jayden don't feel shy. Eat as much as you can."
