Chapter 6: Maze of the dark labyrinth (Red Crystal)

Cedric Carter Lafuente POV:

The first task that the emperor gave is to find a rare diamond in the maze of the dark labyrinth. He personally set up everything and I'm just helping him to gather all those needed for the selection. I myself, don't know what kind of diamond it is. But I'm sure it isn't easy to find. And I don't know what else he did in that labyrinth. From the look of his eyes he wanted to find something out from those ten ladies. He has that kind of strong determinations in his eyes. And I'm afraid he suspects that Lady Areshia Ashly Mondragon is a human.

All girls assemble already in the entrance of the maze. This maze is not ordinary maze, once you lost in there you cannot return back. But I will never leave Lady Ares behind. I'll help her. The girls started to pass the entrance wearing their attire for hunting. The rules are so simple, once you found the rare diamond you win. After getting it, they should hid back as soon as possible.

The emperor smiled evilly.

"Don't you even think of helping Cedric? I know what's in your mind."

"Your highness?"

"And besides, I prepared I trap in there."

"You can't do that."

"Well, I just did."

"You promised me."

"Yes, I made a promised. But not with the ladies." He laughs after saying those words. "They are vampires right? So why would you care about something that I put to make it more exciting? Are you hiding something from me Cedric? Remember, I could easily read you like a book. But because I had a promise to keep and I honored my word, that's why I didn't invade your privacy up until now. I know there's something going on between you and Lady Areshia Ashley."

"Your highness?"

"Don't lie to me. I saw you talking together with her. And I'm very positive that you knew something about her. What is it?" The emperor said with his dangerous voice. "Speak!"

"I don't know a thing about her your highness..." I manage to lose my fear in my words. I don't want him to know that I'm lying.

"Your eyes cannot lie to me Cedric. Sooner or later I will know what it is."

I vow my head as a sign of respecting him. But my mind is wondering somewhere and I'm afraid that Lady Areshia Ashley will not make it.

The emperor gone to his way, I have a feeling that he will enter the labyrinth by his self. And I couldn't stop him for that. My power wouldn't be enough to beat a monster.

Before they gone through the first task I go to Lady Areshia. I'm trying to support her with this. I don't care if I got the look of other remaining ladies. But something in me wanted to protect her. I don't know why. Maybe I found a hope with the darkness that I felt right now. Because of her, she didn't hesitate to help others even if her life is at stake. I used to be like her before, when I'm free with no tyrant who's slaving us. Her eyes are full of hopes and I couldn't lose that kind of person. She's different from other girls, I could feel it.

"Your highness..." She said to me. "What are you doing in here? The competition will start so soon." She stops from talking when I embrace her tight. Wishing it could give her a good luck.

"I want you to know that I did everything to protect you." I murmured in between her ears.

She looked at me in confused. "Now here, take this...It will help you to be safe... Just promise me one thing, you'll return safe...." I gave her a knife. A poison knife that whoever stabs it will die so soon.
