I quickened my pace as the clouds began to gather in the sky.
Up to now, the sky had been perfect; imagine looking at a postcard. But it was changing. The pretty blue shade was beginning to darken into a dark grey as time went by. Large cloud-pillows were forming, blotting out the warm sunlight.
I got the first splatter of rain when I was halfway home. I decided to take a shelter under the closest roof, hoping that I could see out the shower.
Of course I didn't take an umbrella with me.
Droplets of moisture began to drip from the high roofs of the huge buildings in London. They were sprinkling onto the street at first, but then the rainfall became more intense. A wall of rain moved over the roof and the drops were drumming against the wall, and now there was no way of still being dry. So much rain was falling that the sound blurred into one long, whirring noise and I decided to take the underground back home.
Luckily, the next underground station wasn't much of a walk, only a few hundred metres. I held my hands above my head, which helped nothing, wishing I had a jacket with me or that my jumper had a hood.
When I arrived at the station it rained a bit less but it still was raining enough for me to pay the money for a train ticket home.
I walked down the stairs...
[imagine this ^ is the sound phil's hearing and continue reading; it's probably not working if you use the app, i'm sorry]
...and I was welcomed by the beautiful sound of a piano.
I recognized the song immediately.
Suddenly I forgot about catching my train; it didn't matter anyways, every ten minutes there'd be another one arriving. Finding out where the music came from was more important to me in that moment.
I followed the sound of the piano, it was like I was hypnotized. I never felt like this before, not about some random street-performer at an underground station, it was weird; I listened to the marvellously played tune, not able to understand how this song could be played that well.
I stepped past the faint yellow walls with the advertising posters on them which were way too colourful and just the same everywhere, all over the city; which I knew the slogans of by heart by now.
Turning around the corner I could finally see where the music came from. A tall brunette guy sat in front of a brown wooden street piano. He had a floppy fringe much like my own which kept falling into his eyes, but he didn't care. The only thing he concentrated on, the only thing that mattered to him, was the piano he was playing.
He didn't really fit in, but at the same time he did perfectly. His cheap black clothes made him blend in, but his ridiculously amazing and outstanding talent didn't.
I walked closer. As expected, there weren't many people watching him. People were way too busy trying to catch their trains to notice such beauty right in front of them. But I could tell the boy didn't care – he didn't play for money or attention, he played out of passion.
I stood behind him now, but not too close, watching his fingers wander over the black and white keys at an incredibly fast pace. It was impressive.
The lyrics of the song popped up in my head, and I secretly whispered along, not loud enough for anyone around me to hear it. "Your time is now..."
The song was "Butterflies & Hurricanes" by Muse.
