Chapter Four.... Waverly

I surfaced gasping for breath. My lungs were burning for oxygen. Dang, I was out of shape! I went back under the water and just sat on the bottom of the pool. The need for air came again and I surfaced once more. Through the window of the house, I saw Jaycob and Paxton talking animatedly. Kayleb just stared off into space. He was obviously bored. I smirked. Well that's what you get when you try to be something you're not. Deciding that I was done swimming, I got out of the pool. Through the hedges, I saw Kathleen walking toward our house. I went to greet her. "Hey! How are you?" I asked her.

"Good. How are you?" Was her polite response after she gave me a hug.

"I'm doing fine."

"Wow, look at you! You've grown up so much." She said looking me up and down. " It seems like just yesterday you were making sand castles at the beach, and running up to show your mom and I what you had made; towing us to your prize only to find that it had been washed away. You were so upset, but your mom promised that we would go out for ice cream later if you stopped crying. As soon as she said that, you stopped crying, and when we went out for ice cream later she ranted on and on about how amazing she thought it would have looked like, and you just giggled because she would never have known what it really did look like." She finished. I just sighed. I remembered that day. I was only six years old. Realizing that I was just standing there with a far away expression on my face, I welcomed her into the house.

"Dad, Kathleen's here!" I yelled.

"I'm coming." He arrived down stairs and took Kathleen into the kitchen, away from the obnoxious boys who had moved into the living room. I tried to walk up stairs, but someone had grabbed me around the waist, and thrown me over their shoulder.

I shrieked in surprise. Realizing that it was Jaycob, my heart soared. "Jaycob, put me down now!" I screamed at him. I wasn't really angry. I tried to contain a giggle.

"Well since you asked nicely, no." He said. He just stood there for a moment with me over his shoulder.

"Down now." I spat. I was really starting to get annoyed.

"Okay." He said. He still didn't move.

"Before Christmas would be nice." I said sarcastically.

"Hey, I never agreed to when or where." He flirted. He moved out the door.

Thinking that he was going to throw me into the pool, I screamed, "No! No! Don't do it! Put me DOWN!" To my dismay he passed the pool and went through the gate that led to the beach. "You wouldn't." I said seriously.

"Oh yes I would!" He replied before barreling into the ocean and launching me into the air.

"Ahhh! You jerk!" I managed to scream before I plunged underneath the cold salty water. I came up and spluttered. He was laughing his butt off at me. I glared at him, infuriated. "Oh you think it's funny now, but we'll see who gets the last laugh." I dove under the water and grabbed his legs pulling him with me under the water. "Ha!" I exclaimed, thinking that I was the winner. Suddenly, He jerked me towards him. He lifted me up and grabbed my wrists so I couldn't move.

"Who's the one laughing?" He asked innocently. "Oh yeah, it's still me! Ha!"

"Okay, okay, just put me down!"

"No, I don't think I will." So he just held me there for a while. A gust of wind came and I shivered. I was freezing my butt off in this bikini.

"Are you cold?" He asked sweetly.

"Yes." I answered quickly. He pulled me in closer and I realized that he was hugging me. Very carefully, I twisted and he let go of my wrists. I wrapped my legs around him and returned the hug back. He carried me back to shore. Not wanting to make him think that I like him, I said, "I can get down now."
