Chapter Eight.... Waverly
I opened my eyes just a crack and examined my surroundings. I had an oxygen mask on my face. I was lying down in a bed. The place I was in smelled like antiseptic which led me to believe that I was in a hospital. My throat hurt and my mouth tasted like salt water. My bed was uncomfortable. I tried to take the oxygen mask off. "She's awake." I heard someone whisper. I opened my eyes fully.
"Help me!" I moaned, gesturing to the oxygen mask and my uncomfortable bed. I began kicking the covers down.
"No Waverly, stop." My dad protested.
"Why!" I yelled, now angry. I don't think that I was in full control of my body. I was acting like a little kid.
"Do you remember what happened, sweetie?" Kathleen asked. I didn't realize that she was here.
"NO! Let me out!" I started to pull at the oxygen mask.
"Stop. You need to keep that on until the doctor says so." Dad said.
"What happened?" I asked, my temper now under control. I was very groggy.
"You drowned." Kathleen said. Her voice was soft and soothing.
"But I'm a good swimmer!" I said frustrated.
"I know, but the waves were really big, and it was high-tide." She said calmly.
"Oh." I managed to say. A doctor entered the room.
He looked down at his chart. "Waverly!" He exclaimed. Wow, he doesn't even know my name. I thought. He's rude. He consulted his chart again. "You shouldn't be awake. I'm going to increase your pain killers." I realized that I did have some pain when I breathed. He walked over and quickly adjusted my oxygen mask and pressed buttons on the machine it was connected to.
I started to get drowsy immediately. "No..." I managed to say before I drifted off back into a sea of nightmares.
