Chapter Eleven.... Kayleb
"Kayleb! Where's Waverly?" Cassandra asked. I gritted my teeth. She wasn't the first person to ask that nor was she the fiftieth. No, she was more up in the one-fifties.
For the millionth time I answered, "She went to rest because she is really weak from her surgery, and the doctor ordered her not to exert herself to much."
"Oh. Well then, tell her that we have to hang out sometime soon. Maybe you and I can hang out right now." She put her hand on my arm.
"No thank you. I'll tell her, but right now I have to go check on her." I said as I removed her arm and walked away. Waverly was smart. I thought. She was smart enough to get away from all these air heads who just want to hook up with me, my brother, and Paxton.
I slipped out the sliding glass door and ran to my house. Once I was inside I bounded up the stairs to the guest room. I quietly opened the door expecting to see Waverly sound asleep on the bed. She wasn't there. I looked through all the doors in the house. Finally coming to the last door, I opened it. She was in Jaycob's room. Of course she would be in here. Jaycob only thinks of himself so this would be where he puts a guest! Maybe he did it to make me mad. Or maybe he actually likes her. That would be horrible! I thought. I didn't want her in here so I gingerly lifted her up and carried her to the guest room. Not knowing what to do now, I went down stairs to the basement to watch TV. After a while I heard someone walking down the stairs. I ran a hand through my hair and straightened up the pillows, thinking that it was Waverly. I was horribly disappointed when Jaycob walked in the room instead of Waverly.
"Did you move her?!" He asked while at the same time yelling at me.
"What?" I asked confused.
"Did you move Waverly into the guest bedroom?" He said condescendingly, holding out each syllable longer then he needed to.
"So, what if I did?" I responded.
"Maybe I put her there for a reason!" He screamed.
"Maybe she didn't want to be in there!" I yelled back. I wasn't going to let him walk all over me. I wasn't going to give him what he wanted without a fight, especially if it was something as special as Waverly.
"She didn't want to be in there?" His expression turned from angry to downcast.
"I said maybe." I wasn't going to be mean and stoop to his level just to make him feel bad for no reason.
"Look, I think I like Waverly so it would be nice if you would get off my back and let me live my life the way I want to." He said.
"You think you like her!" I responded. "I've loved her since I was seven! I cared for her all this time. When she got hurt, I got hurt. When her mom died, I comforted her, or at least I tried to. She wouldn't let anyone get close to her for a long time. And now I have one more chance to tell her how I feel, but you come waltzing in and try to snatch her away from me." I yelled. My voice was hoarse and I was close to tears.
"Oh wow, you loved her did you?" He mocked me. "If you loved her so much then why didn't you try harder? Oh yeah, because you're a chicken." He taunted. "I'm going to go out with Waverly, whether you like it or not!" Jaycob said.
"Why? Because I know that all you'll do is make her fall in love with you, and then break her heart! That's what you do to everyone! You are just like dad!" I screamed.
"You're lying! Dad didn't cheat on mom! He's changed! You're just making that up because he likes me better!" He screamed.
"Of course, you think I made that up because you think it's all about you! I don't care about that. You can have all of his cheating 'love' and fake 'affection' because I don't care about him because he doesn't deserve anyone to care about him!" I screamed.
"Fine. I will because you don't deserve it. You're a horrible son if you really believe that stuff." I knew that the conversation was over so I walked out of the room. I was fuming with anger. He had no idea what he was talking about, but now I had dragged Waverly and my dad into this. I knew without a doubt that someone was going to get hurt, and with any luck it wouldn't be me, and hopefully Waverly wouldn't be hurt either.
