Adele's POV
We finally got to the airport where we had to wait for our flight. I crossed my fingers, hoping no one would recognize me. Luckily I had first class tickets, so we got to board before everyone else. We got on and did all of the normal taxiing and things when we were finally ready to take off. Maria grabbed my hand and had her other hand configured so that her thumb was between her pointer and middle fingers. I just smiled and squeezed her hand. About an hour later we landed at O'Hare airport in Chicago. My driver was there, waiting to take us back to the hotel where Simon, Angelo, and the rest of my crew and band were. It took about an hour and a half just to drive there because it was lunchtime in the city and traffic is always horrendous. Maria looked out the window the entire time, saying she had never been to Chicago before. I enjoyed watching her take in all of the sights, filling her mind with knowledge and things to think about. "So Maria, when does school start for you?"
"The 22nd of August," she said, but turning away from the window.
"Wow that's really soon. Are you excited, nervous?"
"I'd say that I'm nervously excited. I love school, mostly because I love to learn and have a kind of thirst for knowledge. I'm going to a private high school, so it costs a lot of money, a lot more than my parents can afford, so I put a lot of pressure on myself to get a scholarship, which I did. Nearly 3/4ths in fact."
"Wow, you must be really smart. Smarter than I'll ever be."
"First of all, thank you for the compliment. Second, people are good at different things and everyone has a different learning style. Albert Einstein once said, 'you can't judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree.' So, you can't judge someone on something they aren't good at."
"Huh. That's really good advice. Do you do any extracurriculars?"
"Yeah, I play tennis and basketball, am going to join the robotics team, I do forensics, I'm a part of Girl Scouts, I play the violin, and I volunteer at different places."
"Wow, you're almost as busy as me!" At that we both laughed, and arrived at the hotel.
