PAXTON
Weddings take forever. At least that's my opinion. I have been standing here for over three hours and the wedding hasn't even started yet. My mom's boyfriend, James is standing up front looking nervous. Well he had a right to be nervous my mom was taking so long I was beginning to consider running into the tent and dragging my mom out myself. I mean how long does it take to get ready for a wedding? It only took me a half an hour to figure out my suit before James informed me I was putting it on backwards. Then I combed my hair over so it looked like James's who I assumed knew what he was doing. Then Fred, James's best man came in and said they were ready for us so now we had been standing for what seemed like forever waiting for the wedding to start.
I was supposed to stand by the door so just about every female (related to me or not) felt obliged to stop and pinch my cheeks and drone on about how adorable I was in my little suit. I am not five but I'm pretty sure most of them still saw me as a little toddler. The only reason that I was allowing this embarrassment was because this was my mom's wedding and she deserved this. I know my mom loves James and he loves her too so that's why I agreed to this and I haven't pranked James...yet.
I did at first, but I did that to every guy that tried to date my mom. It's my version of the "dad talk." If he won't come back after my pranks he doesn't deserve my mom. James not only came back, but he pranked me. Which was a surprise to me, but I knew then that we would get along fine. I then enacted phase two in which I followed them around and made sure they liked each other. Then he asked me first before he proposed to my mom which sealed the deal. He proposed to her here at the park actually at the spot where he's standing right now. Then the planning started.
Everything was perfect down to the last specific detail. James was where they had proposed and the aisle was set up on the path they walked. The reception was going to be at James penthouse apartment that night which was after we were going to take pictures then the press people wanted to interview us because James along with marrying my mom was the owner of a very famous and important company. I was dreading that part of the day I was a shy person and didn't like all the attention mom and I had been getting since she had started dating him. I knew it was going to get worse since she was getting married to him but hopefully it would cool down after a while.
What I was personally most excited for was the honeymoon. Because my mom had no family and James family wasn't close I was going with them on a Disney cruise. Neither mom nor I had ever been to any Disney park, but we always wanted to. Mom and James were going to spend most of their time together doing "grown up stuff" while I could do whatever I wanted. The only rules were that I couldn't leave the boat without telling them and I needed to always have the new phone that James had given me. Also that I wasn't to go into their room in the suite without knocking not that I plan on going in there anyways I have no plans to lose my innocence on this trip.
I made a face as I thought about that and was suddenly slapped. I looked up in bewilderment to see a rather frail older woman looking at me with a stern expression.
"Young boys shouldn't make faces, especially at events like this." She said shaking a stern finger at me. "and don't slouch." I wasn't slouching. I opened my mouth to argue, but thinking better I closed it. Then I straightened out as much as I could, and tried to stand on my toes in my dress shoes which is harder than it sounds. She looked me up and down with a disapproving look.
"Better... I suppose" then she started shuffling away. I let out a breath I hadn't realized that I was holding. She turned around faster than I would have thought possible for her age and gave me a stern look. I smiled politely and stood up straight. "what are you doing still standing over there boy, come help me to my seat!" her voice carried over the many whispered conversations and brought some giggles from more immature attendees. I walked quickly over to her and helped her to her seat which to my dismay was the seat next to the one reserved for me in the front on the left side.
