"Oh my god, I'm so sorry, are you okay?"
Y/N's hand flew to her throbbing nose, her eyes squeezing shut as soon as she felt tears fill them. The brown-eyed stranger was stunned with his guilt, lips parted with shock as his hand gently rested on the side of her face. "Please tell me you're okay, love, I'm so sorry," he apologised again, spewing out expressions of regret. "I used to be so good at football (or soccer, depends on what you call it), I have no idea what happened. I didn't mean to hit you in the face."
"I'm okay," Y/N finally mumbled out, a small giggle escaping from her lips. Her eyes opened, causing a tear to slip down her cheek. The stranger's eyes got wider, his other hand flying to his mouth. "You're crying! Oh my god, I hurt you!" He gasped, thumb delicately brushing over her sensitive nose.
"I'm fine, I swear!" Y/N assured, quickly wiping away at her teary eyes. "You kicked a ball in my face, it's kind of a natural reaction for the eyes to water up."
"It's kind of a natural reaction for me to feel bad about it," the boy sighed, a frown tugging on his lips. "This isn't a good way to introduce myself. I'm Calum, by the way. Calum Hood."
"Y/N Y/L/N," Y/N introduced, smiling at Calum as she held her hand out. Calum gently removed his hand from her face and used it to shake hers, his hand warm from soaking up the sun for hours.
"Cal, mate, we need the ball back!" A tall blonde boy called from a few feet away, tearing Calum's attention from the gorgeous girl in front of him. Calum let out a small sigh, pawing lightly at the football before picking it up.
"Listen, Y/N," Calum murmured, a cheeky smirk tugging on his lips. "I think you're really pretty, and I still feel incredibly horrible about what happened. Can I take you out tonight? As an 'I'm sorry I nearly broke your nose'?"
Y/N smiled up at Calum, nodding vigorously. "Win your game and I'll give you my number. Sound like a deal?"
"Sounds like a deal," Calum chuckled, blowing a quick kiss to Y/N before dashing back to his group of friends.
He made damn sure he won that game.
