"Just a warning, my parents can be assholes," Y/N sighed as Calum parked the car in her driveway and took the keys out of the ignition. Calum slipped the keys into his pocket and turned to face Y/N, a reassuring smile on her face. "Y/N, I'm in one of the biggest boy bands in the world. If I can deal with millions of haters, I can deal with two harsh parents," He answered, taking Y/N's hand and kissing it gingerly. "You've got nothing to be afraid of, baby. I can handle this."

Oh boy, was he wrong.

The four sat around the kitchen table in an awkward silence, the only sound in the room being the clanking of forks on the plates. "So, um, Colin, what do you do for a living again?" Y/N's dad asked, putting his silverware down and staring intently at Calum. "Dad, it's Cal-" Y/N's dad waved for Y/N to be silent.

"I, uh," Calum started, picking his spaghetti around with his fork. "I'm in a band. 5 Seconds of Summer. I play bass guitar."

"You're in a band?" Y/N's mom responded incredulously, covering her mouth as she chewed her food. "What a shame! You go to college for four years working your behind off for your major and diploma, then you let it go to waste! A band!"

"I didn't go to college, actually," Calum mumbled, voice an octave lower than it usually is. His head was hanging down in embarrassment. "Perfect!" Her mom exclaimed. Y/N rested her hand on Calum's thigh, rubbing it comfortingly as she shot him with an apologetic look. Calum forced a smile.

"5 Seconds of Summer is the band that sings that song about not stopping, right?" Y/N's dad asked, beginning to eat his food again.

Calum nodded an affirmative. Don't Stop.

"So that means I've heard you on the radio before. You're a pretty big band, right?"

Calum nodded again.

Y/N's dad hummed in amusement. "So, do you travel all around the world?"

"Yes, sir. We just got back from the United Kingdom and Ireland," Calum answered, still refusing to make eye contact.

"That mean you meet a lot of girls?" Y/N's dad asked, his voice more serious this time.

"Yes, sir. I meet a lot but I really wanted you to know that I love your daughter, and I wouldn't ever dream of hurting her. I'm in love with Y/N."

Y/N's cheeks turned a bright pink as she looked up at Calum with moon eyes. "You love me?" She repeated, a smile growing on her face. Calum grinned, taking her hand in his and holding it tightly. "So much," Calum responded, leaning in and kissing her cheek gently.

Y/N's parents couldn't help but smile.

"Alright, that's disgusting," Her dad teased, getting up from the table to dispose of his extra food.

Y/N's mom remained at the table, observing the way Y/N and Calum looked at each other. She saw the way Y/N smiled because of him, how genuine it was.

"Calum, we're sorry we were being rude earlier. We just want what's best for Y/N- she's been hurt before, you see. We can tell you make her very happy and that you love each other, and that's all we need to know. Welcome to the family, Calum."
