Y/N laid on the damp grass with Calum, her head resting on his chest as they looked at the starry night sky over their heads. "I really don't want you to leave," Calum sighed, closing his eyes tightly so he wouldn't cry. Y/N had stuck with him these last fifteen years, knowing more about him than his own family did. She was like a sister to him, and he didn't want to let her go. She was supposed to go to graduate with him, going skateboarding in their cap-and-gowns before getting an apartment together for university. They wanted to spend their lives together, and they had it all planned out, too. Y/N leaving Australia wasn't a part of the plan.

"I don't want to leave," Y/N mumbled back, the tears already streaming down her cheeks. "I'm gonna miss you so much, Calum. You're my favourite person in the entire world. It's gonna suck, not being able to see you again." She rolled off of his chest, moving so she was cuddling into his side. She wanted to cuddle with him one last time before she got picked up, immediately going to the airport to leave for a whole new world. "Hold me."

Calum obliged, wrapping his arms around Y/N. He felt her tears soak into his shirt, but he didn't mind. He had started crying himself. "Just promise me I'll see you again, yeah?" He asked, looking down at Y/N with hopeful eyes. She didn't know if that was something tangible, but she still promised.

Y/N watched the familiar airport come into view as the plane broke through the clouds, the ground slowly getting closer and closer. "We are now landing in Sydney, Australia. Please keep your seat belts fastened until the pilot turns off the sign. Enjoy your stay in sunny and beautiful Australia." Y/N let out a silent squeal, her home becoming closer in view.

Her parents had told her they were going back to Sydney for a few weeks for a family reunion. Y/N, having a bad case of homesickness over the last few years, decided to tag along. They would be staying at a hotel, since her childhood home was bought out a long time ago. Y/N noticed, however, her mom was spending a lot of time on her phone.

"You're quite the social butterfly right now, aren't you?" Y/N pointed out as they waited to get off the plane, watching her mum angle her screen away from her curious daughter. "Me?" She giggled, shaking her head. "No! Merely work emails."

Calum waited in the airport terminal, finishing off his Starbucks coffee as he waited with his parents. They told him they had to pick up a family friend, who would be staying with them for a little while. Calum was never informed on who it was, which he found odd. "What if it's Y/N?" He thought, heart aching. They had lost contact years ago, unable to reach each other from their different worlds. "Don't be stupid. It's not Y/N."

Minutes after landing, Y/N followed her parents out of the airplane and navigated through the familiar gates, following the numerous signs that lead them to the terminal. Her parents seemed awfully suspicious, but Y/N learned to think nothing of it. She had tried asking before, but they wouldn't tell her the truth. "Gee, it's so nice to be home," Y/N whispered, a smile growing on her face as they neared the terminal. "I can't wait to go back to-" No.

As they turned around the corner, Y/N's eyes landed on a familiar face she didn't think she'd see ever again. To her luck, he saw her, too. Calum Hood.

"Oh my god," the two squeaked out in unison, unable to process what was going on before them. In that moment, time slowed to a crawl. It was just Y/N and Calum. When reality finally hit Y/N, the widest grin broke out on her face and she took off into a sprint towards the tall boy. Calum met her halfway, bending down and picking her up. Y/N's arms wrapped around his neck and her face was buried into the crook of her elbow as he spun her around.

"Y/N, oh my god, I've missed you so much," Calum whispered when he set her down, his hands flying to each side of her face. His grin was uncontrollable as he examined her face, now thinner from getting five years older. She looked gorgeous. He always thought she looked like an angel. "Is this really you?"

Y/N nodded, her hands grasping Calum's wrists. "Yes, Calum, it's really me!" She exclaimed, her heart beating a mile a minute in her chest. She never thought she'd be looking into his big brown eyes again. Fuck, he was a sight for sore eyes. When she walked out of his backyard the last time they saw each other, he was fifteen, had a baby face, his body was the human equivalent of a toothpick, and his voice cracked whenever he talked. Now he was twenty, his bone structure chiselled by the gods, his body was ripped with muscles, and his voice dropped two octaves. He still had squish to his cheeks, letting her know he was the same Calum now as he was back then.

Calum pressed his lips to her forehead, holding her close and rocking her gently as he held her. He felt like if he let go, she would disappear. Their parents were excited to see each other, chattering and letting out cheers of mirth as they caught up on old times. After a few minutes, Y/N's mum turned around. "Come on, Y/N, let's go get our bags and get going."

Y/N frowned. "Oh, right," she remembered, sighing silently. "The hotel."

Her mum smirked deviously. "Actually, the hotel is for your dad and I. You're staying with Calum." The grin returned on Y/N's face, Calum's jaw dropping. So this is what mum meant by family friend.

The group headed down the escalator to the baggage claim, Y/N under Calum's arm the entire time. "I missed you so much," she admitted, looking up at Calum with relieved eyes. "It didn't feel right, graduating without you."

"I dropped out," Calum responded with a cheeky grin. "Figured that if I couldn't walk on that stage with you, why walk it at all?"

"That's horse shit and you know it," Y/N mumbled, smirking up at her best friend. "I know you're in a band, Hood." They got their bags and Y/N said goodbye to her parents, parting ways and walking to the parking garage with Calum and his family.

As they drove back to Calum's childhood home, Y/N had her head resting on his chest. She didn't get much sleep on the flight, so she apologised in advance in case she fell asleep on Calum- which she did. Calum ran his hand down Y/N's back, smiling to himself as he inhaled the familiar scent of her perfume. At last, he felt content.
