Dear Mr. Piece of Paper,
Well, I didn't find any more sugarcane yesterday. But guess what I did find—two pigs! They were very cute but also very loud, snorting and oinking. I liked watching them play in the snow so much that I almost forgot to go home before sundown. I ran all the way back and just barely made it. I think I heard the groan of a zombie just as I was opening my door. So, tired and scared, I climbed into bed. I quickly fell asleep.
In my sleep, I dreamt about riding a pig. Is that even possible? What a crazy idea!
My dreams were filled with pig noises, but then I was awake and my actual life was filled with pig noises again. I rushed outside and there were the pigs, stomping around in my wheat fields!
"No, stop!" I yelled at them, waving my hands. "That's my food!"
They seemed to like my waving because they turned and walked over to me. Well, at least they weren't in the wheat anymore. So I came back inside.
But before I could turn around to shut the door, they followed me inside! So now I have two pigs inside my cabin! There's not much room anymore, but the pigs are nice and warm. It's like having another furnace, but these ones oink and walk around. Do you think I could keep them as my pets? Is it okay to have two pet pigs living in your house?
I have so many questions, so while I think about the pigs, I'll tell you about the iron ore and the bed.
I'm a vegetarian, remember? That's why I'm only eating bread right now. And why I want to keep the pigs as my pets. The difficult thing is getting animal products when you don't want to kill the animals. For example, even if I found you a Mrs. Piece of Paper, I couldn't make you into a book without some leather, and I can't get leather without murdering a poor cow! I could never do that!
The same thing goes for sheep and wool. You can kill a sheep to get some wool, but that's terrible! There's a much better way, and that is to make a pair of shears. With shears, you shave off the sheep's wool, but the sheep gets to stay alive and grow some more wool for you.
That's why I need iron. It takes two iron ingots to make sheers. Sheers get you wool. Three blocks of wool and three wooden planks make a bed. Do you understand the connection? I couldn't sleep for a week until I got some iron and sheared some sheep, all because I'm a vegetarian!
Sometimes being a vegetarian makes life difficult. But right now my new pet pigs are smiling at me with their cute faces, and I know I could never, ever hurt an animal.
I wonder what pigs eat for dinner?
Alex
