Dear Mr. and Mrs. Piece of Paper,
Well, I'm back at the igloo. I sealed over the trapdoor with wood, so I won't be tempted to go down there. I think I'm going to spend the night. I need to recover and take inventory.
So, you want to know what happened on the other side of the purple portal? Are you sure you want to know? Actually, the other side of the portal wasn't the biggest problem. Not really...
I woke up on Tuesday morning and hurried back over to the well. I took the steps two at a time, but stopped just before I ran into the black stones around the portal.
I looked at everything very carefully. There were no mobs in the chamber. The portal was glowing softly and had little bubbles of magic floating around it. I looked behind the portal. Nothing.
I checked my bag: apples, bread, sword, shears. I checked my armor. I stuck my hand into the shimmering purple doorway.
Nothing happened.
I shook my hand. Still nothing.
I reached in all the way to my elbow. I could see my hand on the other side, looking a little darker through the purple light.
I put my arm in all the way to my shoulder. Nothing.
I sucked in a deep breath, like I was about to go underwater, and stuck my head through the portal.
Finally, the whole world swirled and changed.
I was in a darker place. There were small fires in the distance. I thought I could also see a waterfall of lava. Cool.
I mean, not cool. Hot. Boiling, deathly hot.
The rock I was standing on was different, kind of red or maybe pink. I stuck my pickax into it and dug up a block. Netherrack, my inventory identified it. What's that mean?
I turned around, and thankfully, the purple portal was still right behind me. In this weird world of teleportation and magic and zombies, you can never be sure.
Speaking of zombies, I didn't see any hostile mobs around. But I couldn't see much besides the weird rock, fires, and lava. I pulled out a few torches to light my way. At least they would lead me back to the portal, so I wouldn't get lost. I hoped.
I lit up the area and realized that I was in a short, narrow tunnel that opened in front of me. The cavern beyond was so big that I couldn't even see the edges of it, just glowing fires, lava, and darkness.
Whatever this place was, it was creepy. Worse than the ugly villagers.
I suddenly remembered why I was here: the dog with the green collar! I started running forward but didn't know where to go.
The lava waterfall. I would go there. It could be a landmark to help me get back.
I went forward carefully, sword out. The ground was uneven, and I sometimes tripped or stumbled on the netherrack. A few of the blocks have white lines going through them, but I didn't stop to dig them up. I had a mission.
The lava waterfall was really cool. No, hot. I think living in the ice biome for so long had affected my brain.
It fell from a cliff about twenty blocks above me. I looked up and saw that the chamber continued. There were other glowing blocks too, but they didn't look like fire or even lava.
And then I saw it! Something light gray! The dog?
I blinked, and it was gone. What?
I turned around, looking for some way to climb up the cliff. But there it was again, a light gray blob in the distance. I ran in that direction, more careful on the netherrack this time, calling, "Here, boy! Come!"
