Sam comes into the room, waking me and Jacob up. I don't know how I got there but I was pretty sure Jacob carried me. I woke up disoriented, not knowing anything until all the memories came flooding back. Today was the day. I was going to face my own personal nightmare. And her name was Victoria.
"It's time." Sam said, as he left the room.
I shivered slightly and Jacob sat up, his hands moving to my shoulders. He rubbed out some of the tension. I had to much though, because when we got up my back and shoulders and legs and arms and head and neck and fingers and toes and feet and hands and stomach were still tense. I was a walking ball of stress.
It was 6 am and we walked into the kitchen. Sam's had dark circles underneath his eyes. They were so defined that for a second he looked pretty much dead. I got to the table he was sitting at and sat in front of him. He was drinking his eighth cup of coffee, probably. Seeing as he was twitching slightly. He looked up and me as Jacob was sitting down next to me.
"Are you sure about this?" He asked me, slightly breathless.
"Yes. Lets start now." I answered.
Jacob and I got up and began walking towards the door, Sam trailing behind us. I saw Emily standing with a scared face and I thought about how hard this must be for her. She's seeing her family and the love of her life, her husband, walking away from her to fight one of the most dangerous vampires she has every heard of. I felt bad for leaving her here but she can't come. Im already too much a distraction. I turned from Jacob and Sam and walked over to Emily.
"Ill take care of the guys, Em. I promise." I lied, tears filling my eyes. I knew someone was going to die, maybe even all of us.
"I know, Bells. Thank you." She lied back to me. Our eyes said something different though.
If I survive, I will see you soon. If anything happens, I promise to tell you everything from beginning to end. My eyes said.
I believe you, but please lets hope that nothing happens. Her eyes answered.
I hugged her tightly, knowing that it might be the last time. Sam had already drifted to her, noticing our exchange, Jacob doing the same but with me. Sam bent his head down, pulled her chin up and met her lips with undeniable pain and passion. I looked at Jacob and he did the same. Both parties separated at the same time. I took Jacobs hand and we walked towards the door together, Sam joining us with a grave face. We walked across the road into the nearest forest covering. We all knew my scent wasn't as noticeable when Jacob carried me in wolf form so it was his job to carry me to the area Victoria kept coming from. He phased and I clambered onto him. He began running. I began crying.
We made it to the place Victoria kept trying to pass through. Based on their calculations, Victoria tried every hour to pass through now. Every hour on the hour, sometimes two. When Sam said it was time, she had just tried so we have one to two hours for me to sweep the area without her coming soon. Hypothetically, but we were to be doing this in thirty minutes to minimize the the chance of her finding me earlier.
I began the plan, walking from point A to point B while gliding my hands across anything I could touch. Trees, bushes, logs, etc. I grabbed a few hair strands that were falling out and placed them on the twigs that were sticking out of my path. Once I completed path A through B, I walked back towards point A but stopped in the middle (point C). Turning my direction towards the field I walked from point C to point D. Point D being the felid. Located a walk of 15 minutes for a human from point C. Jacob and Sam in wolf form following me the entire time.
Once I entered the field I spotted the rest of the pack. Standing strong, but you can see the tension etched into their body positions. I walked up to them slowly, looking at each one in the eyes. It was only 7 am by then and I sat down on the ground, Jacobs huge wolf body doing the same behind me and I leaned back into a huge shoulder. It was a crisp morning and Jacob's body heat quickly warmed me. We sat while the rest of the pack stood. We were all tense. We were all scared.
All day passed and nothing. No sign of Victoria. No sign of anything. Then around 8 pm. 13 hours later. I feel Jacob get up and growl in the direction I came from. The rest of the pack did the same. I got up slowly, my eyes raking the forest line. Then I saw her, a flash of red. Her hair whipping in the crisp wind. Her red eyes glowing through the forest, focused on the only thing she wanted. Me.
She began to walk towards us, the wolves snarling behind me. She stopped in front of us, ten feet away. My heart began pumping fast, the blood rushing through my ears. Only then did she take notice to the ten werewolves standing tall and fierce behind me. She looked bored, like she was tired of their horrid efforts of trying to save me. She went back to looking at me and she smiled like she ran into her old friend.
"Wonderful Bella! Ive spent over a year thinking about you!" She said as if she was doing me a huge favor.
"Victoria, you look beautiful as always." I answered confidently, while inside I felt like a mouse looking in the eyes of a cat.
Her laugh cut through me, making me shiver. A movement she did not miss.
"So Bella, I'll make this simple. Your death or the death of one of your precious dogs?"
