Ivan didn't go to school again. In fact he hadn't been to school since Tuesday and it was already Friday. Adam had also worried Kiera since Adam continued to skip classes.
Kiera tried to ignore them and focus on her math test. She was the last one to finish the test. The embarrassing part was that everyone stared at her once she got up, as if she did something wrong. She quickly took a deep breathe and quickly turned in her test and then returned to her seat.
After school she walked home and sat on her bed doing homework. She got a text from her dad saying that he'll be home late again so she had to make dinner.
Jacob wasn't home yet since he said he was going over to a friends house for awhile. So Kiera had until probably 6 to cook dinner. "Spaghetti" she thought and then continued to do homework. After awhile she heard her phone ring. It was Adam. She quickly picked up the phone. "Adam?" She said trying not to sound too worried. "Kiera meet me by the park in 5 minutes!" He hung up. "Wait what!? Adam!" Kiera quickly ran outside to the park.
Once Kiera got there, she saw Adam sitting on one of the benches taking deep breathes. "What's up Adam?" Kiera asked. "Nothing really I just wanted to know if you've thought about homecoming yet." Adam said. Kiera was speechless. She couldn't think of anything that wouldn't hurt Adam. "Look Adam, I just don't like you in that way. I actually have feelings for someone else." Kiera said. Adam immediately grabbed both her wrists so hard it hurt. He hit her. Kiera was trying so hard to defend herself, but she just couldn't. He then quickly let go of her, and looked down at his hands. Kiera started running as fast as she could from him. She ran even though her legs were sore. All she wanted was to get away from him.
Even making spaghetti was difficult for Kiera since her wrists were bruised. Jacob tried asking her what happened, but all she said is that she hurt herself during PE. Jacob didn't believe any of this, but he surprisingly decided to respect his sisters privacy.
That Monday Kiera pretended to be sick and missed school. Ivan finally returned to school to find Kiera absent. He was kind of worried to the point of where he asked Drew if he knew why she was absent. "I don't know, but maybe Adam knows since he hangs out with her after school a lot." So after PE Ivan quickly asked Adam if he knew anything about Kiera. "I don't know ok." It was obvious Adam was lying. "Did you do anything to her?" Ivan said trying to be calm. Adam didn't answer and looked away. "You did didn't you." Ivan said trying his hardest not to raise his voice. "I may or may have not hit her." Adam whispered loud enough for Ivan to hear. Ivan quickly let go of Adam even though Ivan was pretty angry.
After school, Ivan went for a cruise on his skateboard to help him relax. He passed by Kiera's house and stopped. He stood there staring at the window to her room. He couldn't help himself so he went up there again.
He knocked and she surprisingly opened the window. "What are you doing here?" Kiera said with a serious look. "I just passed by your house on my skateboard and decided to stop by that's all." He grinned. To his surprise, Kiera actually let him in. As soon as he got in he sat down on her bed and examined her for any bruises. He saw some on her wrists, one on her left leg, and another on her cheek. "Did he hit you anywhere else?" He looked concerned. Kiera was quite surprised that he knew. "He hit me on my side too." Kiera said looking down. Ivan got up and hugged her much to Kiera's surprise. "I'm sorry he did that to you." He said. "No, it's ok I'm alright. I just didn't go to school cause I just didn't want to have to face him again. I'm really just pretending to be sick as an excuse not to go to school." Kiera admitted.
Ivan felt a little bit more relieved. He let go of her and asked why Adam beat her. "He asked me if I wanted to be his date to homecoming, but the thing is I don't like him that way and," Kiera saved herself from accidentally confessing to him. "And what?" Ivan smiled. Kiera found herself blushing. Her heart was beating out of her chest.
Then she noticed that they were looking directly at each other.
He kissed her again. It all felt just like a dream to Kiera. When they separated, all she wanted was more. "Hah looks like I don't have a fake excuse this time." Ivan said anxiously. In fact he was so nervous you could hear his voice tremble a little. "Ever since the first day I met you Kiera, I've felt something that I've never really felt before. You're probably the only girl I've ever met that has made me feel so insecure, overprotective, and very confused. I've always been confident, but for some reason ever since I've met you, I always get these thoughts on how my hair looks or if Kiera will like this cologne. I guess you can say I.....you know, um...........like........a girl..... I mean...... Ugh what am I saying! I like you a lot ok!" Ivan exclaimed looking down.
Kiera didn't know what to say. She was so happy and excited. She couldn't stop smiling. "I have feelings for you too!" She laughed. Ivan looked up to see her smiling. She looked like a 4 year old going to Disneyland. Ivan laughed too. He felt so relieved that he wasn't rejected. He carried her like a princess and spun her around in happiness. She kissed him. This kiss felt different though. He kissed her back. He continued to spin her around and laugh until they both landed on her bed. "Please don't tell me you're messing with me again." Kiera said still smiling. "I promise I'm totally not!" Ivan laughed. He looked down at her and said, "So, Mrs. Velasquez, will you be my date to homecoming?". "Hell yeah!" Kiera couldn't stop laughing. He kissed her forehead and held her close. "I wonder where things will go from here" Kiera thought to herself.
