"Thank you Davey, for everything and ya family," I said to him. We were on the fire escape looking out into the starry sky of New York with my brother, Jack.

"Anything for friends," Davey said turning to me. He smiled that shy simple smile of his at me and I couldn't help but having a smile form on my face as well.

After a few moments of silence my brother cleared his throat. Both of us turned to Jack who had a frown plastered on his face.

"Well, umm Ray, I think it's bout time we'se gettin back to da lodgin house," Jack said.

"Um, sure," I mumbled. "Bye Davey. It was nice, havin spent the day with you'se."

"Yes, it was nice spending the day with you too," Davey said.

Jack and I started walking down the escape stairs before it started to rain. As the water poured down, I remembered I had left my hat on the fire escape out of Davey's house.

"Jack, I gotta go back. I'se forgat ma hat."

"Ray, it's a pouring. Don't worr-"

"Jack, ya know how I feel bout my hat.

"Alright you go and get it. I'll see you'se back at da lodgin house." Jack sighed.

I nodded before sprinting back up the stairs, hoping to find Davey standing next to my hat. As I reached the platform of the escape we were on, I saw Davey's silhouette standing there, with rain falling down on him. Droplets of water ran down his face as it came down for the cloudy sky. A chill came upon me as I stood, already drenched.

I inched closer before he turned his head to look me right in the eyes.

"I, uh, forgot ma hat."

"Oh," he answered. He took it and gave it to me. After taking the hat, I started to walk back when I heard a "Wait!"

Turning around, I saw Davey only a foot away from me, his hair soaking, his clothes completely wet.

"Reagan, I had a lot of fun today."

"Ya," I breathily laughed out. "I has a good time too."

After a minute or so of smiling back at Davey, I decided to make my way back down the stairs. Every step I took felt a little more heartbreaking and the rain fell a little harder. I was just that far much more far away from Davey.

I then did something I couldn't even control. Something that came over me like a wave of the ocean- powerful and vibrant, but gone within seconds, and you have no control over how they will move.

I turned around and sprinted as fast as I could back up the stairs. When I saw Davey with his hands on the railing, leaning against it, I ran to him. His head came up and the last thing I remembered was seeing his smile.

I wanted it to be in the movies where the two lovers come running to each other and gracefully kiss each other once and smile while running off into the flower fields.

It ended up being me sprinting towards Davey, then smashing my lips on his from all the force of my running. He then staggered backwards trying to find his balance from the rain and me running into him, but never breaking away from our kiss.

Once we both found our balance, Davey ended up leaning his back against the railing. His hand was on my neck as mine was on his chest.

The truth is- I had never kissed a soul in my life, besides my brother Jack. Never. And I didn't really know how to go about doing it.

He kept a grip on me to make sure I wouldn't go anywhere.

Believe me, I wouldn't go anywhere else. I was all his.

His kisses were so gentle but deep. A gust of joy ran down my spine at his hand touching my neck. My legs barely kept me standing. He soon took one, last kiss.

After that, we pulled away. I was so scared, I started to run away when his cold hand grabbed my arm roughly and turned me so I was inches in front of him.

"Please don't go," he whispered.

"Davey, I, I neva done a kiss for."

"And you think I have?" He asked.

"Well, you so smart. You know everything." I insisted.

"That doesn't matter." He sighed, "You got all da newsies at your fingertips. Why did you choose me?"

"Because you different. You have a way about ya, Davey, the way your eyes are in the light and you has that really cute laugh." I said. He laughed at my attempt of being sweet. "See, that's exactly it Davey."

He took his thumbs and started to stroke my cheeks. I responded by rubbing my hands back and forth on his shoulders.

"Thank you Reagan." He sighed. We stared at each other in the moonlight of the pouring rain.

"Davey," a voice said. His father stuck his head out the window. "It's time to come in."

"Ok Father." He responded. Davey gave me a small smile before taking his dripping wet body in the window and into his house.

After Davey was gone, I stood in the rain, smiling at the day that just passed me before heading down the fire escape stairs.
